So let's look at what happened to Italy when it deported three terrorism suspects in cases that echo Abu Qatada.

Each man had the protection of the European Court. But Italy ignored that and booted them out. What were the consequences?

European judges didn't call Interpol. There were more angry letters and fines totalling €60,000.

Me too. Ignoring ludicrous judgements such as this doesn't mean we have to ignore all human rights legislation but scum like this guy, who've done nothing but undermine and take advantage of the system here, deserve no such protection.

Radical cleric Abu Qatada's deportation has been thrown into doubt after the European Court of Human Rights said it had received a last-minute appeal.

The appeal by his lawyers was lodged late last night, a day after the Home Office believed the deadline expired.

If the Home Office is wrong, Strasbourg's confirmation of a last-minute appeal is a shattering development. But the Home Office insists that it circled the right date on the calendar.

When the appeal was revealed, a Home Office spokesman denied that it had made a mistake about timing, saying the European Court was "wrong".

A spokesman said that Abu Qatada had "no right to request to refer the case to the Grand Chamber [of the court] because the three-month deadline passed at midnight on Monday".

He said the government was writing to the European Court to make the point that the case should not be referred because the deadline had lapsed.

Just how incompetent are this government (and the last) for being unable or unwilling to remove a clear danger from our shore. Getting the date for an appeal deadline wrong is the kind of rookie mistake I would expect but surely the time has now come to grow a pair, put him on the next plane out of the UK and stand by the shredder waiting for the letter of complaint to come in from Europe so it can be dealt with appropriately.

If the Government were to push ahead and ignore the European Court they would be breaking the law would they not?

Not any UK laws, from my understanding his deportation has been cleared by every court in the only country it should matter in.

Plus the French and Italians have happily ignored the European courts when it comes to giving potential dangers one way tickets home. I can't see why we should be any different.

according to radio 4 this morning there is something like a backlog of 160,000 cases ,there is a suspicion that the ECHR is eagerly dealing with cases from Britain because we will obey them and more recalcitrant states will just tell them to bog off

I don't care, I care about the safety of this country and the people in it who are law abiding.

Ship him to Jordan and then if anyone asks about him just say WHO, WHAT, WHEN and walk away shaking your head.
