Well I am another CF user and gave you an opinion..... If you are high level transport management then you should know the relationship between insurance, compensation, liabilities...etc..

What I think is that Carnival will surrvive, but with major losses, but it will be insurers that will suffer the most!

Re: Deaths confirmed as cruise ship runs aground off Italy
I personally don't think it'll have a major effect at all on carnival... They're large enough to soak up a £100million loss spread throughout their other companies.. Insurance will claw back their loss through increased premiums for everyone else.. So the losers will be the whole industry..but not by much..
..The only sticking point will be the US compensation claims (typical americans) but how far will they be able to go in the states? Although carnival is US/UK owned I'm not sure of the liability with the accident happening in Italian waters.. Could carnival force the claim to be moved to that jurisdiction and out of the money grabbing compensation culture we know as the USA? If yes then their insurance should soak up the claims, if not then they might be high and dry..

Well Costa themselfs are based in Italy, so Carnival could claim that this a Italian matter, they same would apply to P&O cruises (which would a British matter)

Re: Deaths confirmed as cruise ship runs aground off Italy
Costa might be but Carnival's head offices are in Florida... It very much depends who's mentioned on the claim.. I doubt if the claimants are stupid enough to approach a subsidiary that can be dropped when the owners can be their main target.
It depends on Italian law, US law and Maritime law

They are jointly based in Miami and Southmapton, but American shareholders (Former Shareholders of the pre-2003 Carnival) hold most of the Shares while British shareholders (Former Shareholders of the former P&O Princess Cruises) hold the rest

Italian divers have abandoned their search for bodies inside the wrecked cruise ship Costa Concordia after conditions underwater deteriorated.
"We have definitively stopped the underwater search inside the ship," a spokesman for the fire brigade on the island said.
Fifteen people are still missing after the ship ran aground off Italy on 13 January with the loss of 17 lives.
Work to recover the capsized vessel may take up to 10 months.

Quote:
Divers have described tricky conditions inside the ship, with corridors cluttered with furniture and turbid waters.
Searchers have been lowered on to the ship by helicopter
Dives have been limited to a maximum of 50 minutes, making it difficult to penetrate far into the vessel.
Work to pump out more than 2,300 tonnes of diesel from the ship has been hampered by bad weather

More sad news as 8 more bodys found.
Quote:
Search teams have found eight more bodies in the wreck of the cruise ship Costa Concordia which capsized on 13 January.
The body of a girl of five is among those believed to have been found.
Officials say 32 people died in the disaster but only 17 bodies had been retrieved before the new announcement

Some 30 Britons are on board an Italian cruise liner which has sent out a distress signal after a fire left it adrift off the Seychelles.
The Costa Allegra - in the same fleet as the wrecked Costa Concordia - is carrying more than 1,000 people and drifting without power in the Indian Ocean after a fire broke out in the ship's engine room, reports have said.

Things are getting worse for Costa ,this cannot be doing the companies reputation any good at all

Oh dear it seems Costa Crusies are having a bit of a bad time:

Let's hope this doesn't become serious.
