Tony Blair and the £8million tax 'mystery'
Quote:
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair channelled millions of pounds through a complicated web of companies and paid just a fraction in tax, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.
Official accounts show a company set up by Mr Blair to manage his business affairs paid just £315,000 in tax last year on an income of more than £12 million. In that time, he employed 26 staff and paid them total wages of almost £2.3 million.

So it's not just the rich bankers and CEO's then fiddling their taxes. I just hope HMRC are taking note.

I have always said Labour follow this. "Whats yours is mine but whats mine is my own"
It does not surprise me one bit when it comes to that lying piece of poo.
Quote:
A spokesman for Mr Blair said last night: “The Windrush accounts are prepared in accordance with the relevant legal, accounting and regulatory guidance. Tony Blair continues to be a UK taxpayer on all of his income and all of his companies are UK registered for tax purposes.”
The spokesman added that the accounts did not relate to any of Mr Blair’s charitable activities, which raised money separately as independently registered charities.
The spokesman chose not to explain what happened to about £8 million of administrative expenses.

The accounts show a turnover of £12.005 million and administrative expenses of £10.919 million, leaving Windrush Ventures with a profit of just over £1 million, on which Mr Blair paid tax of £315,000. The tax was paid at the corporate tax rate of 28 per cent.
|
Whilst the tax paid on profit is correct £10 million on expenses for what is basically a consultancy firm seems a tad excessive to say the least .If turnover and expenses figures are that close then the company needs to look at how it is spending money imo, that is of course assuming they are legit which i find hard to believe

Maybe he has decided to use Gordon Brown as his accountant

Re: Tony Blair and the £8million tax 'mystery'
What I want to know is whether it's really a 'mystery' at all. I reckon it was quite predictable.....

It seems the Telegraph took the £12 million figure and the tax for the company which manages his businesses. They didn't include his personal income tax, tax from those actual businesses, or the actual income from this company and instead used the entire cost of the operation. Which is actually what martyh seems to have noticed as being askew.
I mean it's hard to know about his tax arrangements but it's certainly the case he will be paying a lot more than £315,000, and that the statement that he is paying only that amount on a 'income' of £12 million is clearly not true.

They couldn't care less, they're busy harassing commoners like me on the off chance they can wring a few more pounds out of us.
