I would agree that the west put Saddam onto power in the first place. But he bought weapons from the Soviets!

Are you sure about that?
The West may have supported him at times, and sold him arms, but I can't find any links that show the West supported the Ba'athist coup in 1968, or supported him to take over in 1979.
Willing to be proved wrong, though.

My bad, I had assumed that as the West backed him for a time that we had been somehow instrumental in his rise to power. (Though who knows what the CIA were upto then)

And the west supplied him covertly as well.

With chemical weapon technology anything went in the fight to keep iran at bay.
Even we supplied him this make no mistake Saddam was the wests agent perhaps we ought to have looked on our shores for his WMD.

A chemical plant which the US says is a key component in Iraq's chemical warfare arsenal was secretly built by Britain in 1985 behind the backs of the Americans, the Guardian can disclose.
Documents show British ministers knew at the time that the £14m plant, called Falluja 2, was likely to be used for mustard and nerve gas production.

Worse still if you look at the Guardian link i have posted the UK government is implicated in his gas production in a deal at the time the Thatcher government wanted to keep seret from the UK public.
Oh what a web we weaved in order to decieve.
How many of our leaders though do you see in front of war crimes tribunals for sure thats where Tony Blair/people in previous admins should be now not milking millions.
When will we ever learn as you say.

Re: Tony Blair and the £8million tax 'mystery'

Sounds like he's got some shell companies filtering the money through a web of holding companies into an account which holds the minimum amount of money to show to HMRC.

Perhaps Tony is going to have a word with Harry with regards to this.

If he did Blair would need to find a bank with a good "Pedigree" otherwise he would be "Barking"to do it.Harrys the man to see though for that one.
Seroiusly though when you have that much cash coming in you also have the best accountants money can buy to milk it away as has been said with a few front companies. Not for the likes of us denphone they take my paye before leaving me with whats left.

Re: Tony Blair and the £8million tax 'mystery'
His statement said that his companies still pay UK Tax and the Telegraph didn't suggest otherwise.

The accounts show a turnover of £12.005 million and administrative expenses of £10.919 million, leaving Windrush Ventures with a profit of just over £1 million, on which Mr Blair paid tax of £315,000. The tax was paid at the corporate tax rate of 28 per cent.
|
They paid tax, but really, a consultancy with a turnover of £12m has expenses of £11m? Suspicious at the least...
