Miliband faces party unrest....

....after his thus far lack lustre performance as party leader - especially at PMQ.

No surprises there then. Why should we expect anything better from someone who looks (and performs) like an extra for the farmers wife in Chicken run?

Yes his brother would have been a far better leader Mr A.

Ahhh, but David comes with the torture baggage.

I think labour are destined to spend years in opposition / the political wastelands unless there is a root and branch overhaul of the party and its ethics.

I don't see that happening any time soon.

Maybe the party does need a root or branch reform but l think the ethics in all the parties are pretty questionable as it stands and as for possibly spending many years in opposition well if the economic climate remains the same for the next 4 or 5 years which seems pretty likely then the coalition are likely to be blamed by the electorate and thus dumped out of power thus allowing Labour to probably form the next government even with Mr Ed in charge if he is still there.

Another interesting dissection of Labour's current problems is to be found here:

Re: Miliband faces party unrest....

Labour has lost its way for a while now as a working person and sympathetic to Labour i find it truly disheartening for me its not recent i could not really relate to Blair or Mandelson either, both of whom seemed to be usympathetic to Labour re-branding it new labour.

David Miliband would have been a very credible leader i believe he is sympathetic with Labours core vote and could have attracted new voters but for the torture baggage, who knows he may still redeem himself.

But i look at some of the front bench and think what is there Ms PC Harman,Ed "Light touch regulation of the banks" Balls, shadow minister for housing Jack Dromey, and i dispare.

Labour will in my view be out of power until at least the election after next.

Re: Miliband faces party unrest....

He had ambition enough to stab his brother in the back but then has completely gone awol he is not even useless he is beyond that. I don't actually think labour want back in power till the current mess is sorted out it's easy to say someone else is doing it all wrong but there really arn't many avenues to right what is wrong so they are happy i think to be out of power.

Re: Miliband faces party unrest....

IIRC, Labour are being quite vocal when critcising the coalition, but when asked what they would actually do, are ominously silent.

I think that has always been the way of British politics as far as opposition is concerned.

It's actually quite sad to watch.

Re: Miliband faces party unrest....

I've always assumed, since Milliband was elected, that Labour have accepted that they won't be in power for a while!!

The danger for the rest of us is that, after the next General election, we'll have another Government with a massive majority.

No matter the flavour of the political party, large majorities are never good news.

Re: Miliband faces party unrest....

True, it is.. And I know it's always been that way.

It's something I think needs to change. It needs to change because I think people have the view that politicians are largely in it for their own ends, thanks to the sheer amount of controversial expenses claims published in the press.

I think it needs to be done carefully though, as I've seen the Liberals outline their proposals together with what they would cost. An action designed apparently to show transparency, but ultimately used by the other parties to persuade the voters that the Liberals would cost us more.
