2012 Olympic ceremonies budget doubled
Quote:
The government has doubled the budget for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies to more than £80m after David Cameron saw the plans.
The prime minister gave the go-ahead for an increase of £41m above the £40m already budgeted for the opening and closing nights' shows.

Re: 2012 Olympic ceremonies budget doubled
We're only going to host one Olympics and a lot of people around the World will be watching. Let's do ourselves proud.

Last month Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said ground-to-air missiles would be deployed to protect the 2012 Olympics if deemed operationally necessary, after reports emerged the US was unhappy with the UK's security plans.

That makes me feel safer already.

Get a few fireworks from Tesco and a free Bovril stand while Eastenders is up on the big screen. £81m million saved.

Re: 2012 Olympic ceremonies budget doubled
I really wish we weren't hosting the Olympics, after they're gone the bill will linger for years like a bad smell. Might even boycott them

I agree 100% ,
but i would have thought that 40million would be enough ,methinks some contractors have smelled the smell of government money and all of a sudden a hammer costs £2,000

All i can say is they had better be 4 humdinger ceremonies for 80 big ones .
I have no objection to the monoy being spent as long as they show Britain at her best and i do think the country will need a good uplift by next summer

I knew that and believe me i think 80 million is a hell of a lot for 4 ceremonies so they had better be good ,but i do believe it will do the country good and put a positive attitude back into UK plc which i think is badly needed .Instead of sitting back and moaning about how skint we all are and feeling sorry for ourselves something like a good Olympics can start to put some positive feelings back into the country

Re: 2012 Olympic ceremonies budget doubled
Well i don't think everyone is skint, moaning and sitting about feeling sorry for themselves..
but yea i agree in a sense there will be winners and losers and i mean that in a bigger way then medal winners
do you have a figure on how much in real terms the 'sporting event' will generate for the economy ? I'm sure it must be a fair bit,and yea i hope you are right and the games provide that added lift you were talking about
