Sometimes you never know that you're allergic to something until you come into contact with it: I'm allergic to a shrub called Weigelia but nobody's ever heard of an allergy to that plant, in minutes it'll start my skin itching and showing red wheals.

Re: Mother Left In Coma After Using Hair Dye

I can't believe this thread has been posted considering the last couple of days we have just spent helping a friend. On Sunday a friend was in so much pain with the left hand side of her scalp hurting so much it was giving her a headache, her face was swollen, her ear was too painful for her to lie on her side and her left eye was almost swollen shut.

After 3 hours on Sunday at the local A & E dept, a severe ear infection was diagnosed and antibiotics prescribed. An appointment was also made for her to attend the ENT clinic. Along we all trouped yesterday to the ENT clinic and 4 hours later, after a fair few tests, the ear infection was ruled out and a severe reaction to hair colourant diagnosed.

Like most of us ladies who resort to the vanity of having our hair coloured my friend had not had a test patch done, in fact when having it done at a Salon I have never had a test offered, so this last couple of days have been a been a wake up call for me and I shall be approaching my hair colouring sessions with tad more caution in the future.
