The UK to join the Euro..
..eventually.

Former deputy prime minister Lord Heseltine has said he still expects the UK to eventually join the euro.

Well if that happens, I hear Australia, New Zealand or the USA calling me to live there.

Re: The UK to join the Euro..
Dump Italy, Spain, Greece, Ireland and a few others out of the euro and I'd be quite happy for the UK to join it.
PS.. typo in thread title corrected

I honestly don't think the Euro will be around for much longer anyway

Re: The UK to join the Euro..
Had we not been able to manage our own fiscal policy we'd have been in a similar state to Greece right now.
The Euro will never, ever be an appropriate mechanism without full political and fiscal union. That isn't going to happen between the UK and continental Europe.

Well any country that wants to join the Euro now needs the men in white coats to take them away as the Euro is doomed to failure.

Isn't it the poorer of the former Eastern Block countries who want to join? So they too can be bailed out by other countries.

Yep you could be right. It really does annoy me that we are funding the EU along with some others when we are not in the ruddy euro.

Re: The UK to join the Euro..
Heseltine is one of the euro nutters so enthusiastic about it that he see's nothing but the EU as the answer to things. Also typical of the man to foresee a time when the UK will enter the single currency at a time when most people would be breaking their neck running the opposite way. I struggle to take him seriously once he gets on his EU horse the man is more blinkered then any horse ever has been.

So what what you are saying is that the only way for the the Euro to work if the nations of continental Europe became the united states of europe?

Our borrowing has been rising depite the cuts:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15000130
Any way, Britain is unlikely to go bust, but it will suffer because of the Euro Crisis
Our national debt is less than Germany, France, USA, Japan, Italy and Canada, but higher than Spain
