CoE calls for reconsideration of proposed welfare reforms.
An interesting, if not entirely predictable, development.
From the Guardian:
Rowan Williams is calling on the Government to reconsider its position.
"Eighteen Church of England bishops, backed by Williams and the archbishop of York, John Sentamu, are demanding that ministers rewrite their flagship plan to impose a £500-a-week benefit cap on families."
Full story here.
Open letter here.

Re: CoE calls for reconsideration of proposed welfare reforms.
Why can't the CoE stay out of things like this and worry more about dwindling attendence at their buildings on a sunday even though i should be supporting them on this i just wish they would stay out of it.

Re: CoE calls for reconsideration of proposed welfare reforms.
Maybe the CoE and come to think of it the catholic church could offload some of their property that lies empty and out of use due to dwindling attendance and use the proceeds to help the thousands that are suffering because the government is trying to keep UK plc afloat .
The church in any form has no business getting involved in politics imo

I know. I was just guessing what his answer would be.

All churches (religions if you like)should stay out of politics ,not a statement that's hard to grasp Russ

It is if you're going to be vague.
By "The Church/All Churches" do you mean the buildings ie the people who run the buildings such as those at 'vicar' level? Islam does not use churches so are you excluding them, as well as Hinduism, etc? There is a point I'm getting at but I'd like you to be specific about who exactly you mean by 'the church' before I go in to detail about my view on that.

If you were asking me, I'd say yes.
it's a bit like McDonalds should stick to burgers and fries, and keep out of the problem of fuel costs.
