What a wonderful idea, it makes me wonder why this has not been done before. Surely if it is a success which I can't see it not being it should be done in other major city's around most if the world.

They could just give the waste food, to the homeless groups etc, in the first place... not the skips> to landfill with plastics thrown in as well on some of the wrappers With all the wasted food we have in the uk, I've seen with my own eyes is too shocking to say, from persons I know to poeple throwing away that "apple" as it's been on the floor!! Simple wipe it under water then eat no waste.
Growing up in the country side as young one to adult hood, you learn on how you spread your food out to last the full week not the busy days you have to fill. Once in the city suburbs what I saw was pure waste going into the public bins or black bags no thought oh how one can make that dented/soft/old fruit+veg into a tasty meal with side dishes with a little thought.
Soft fruit = pie/crumble/etc
All you need is some fruit chop out the bad bits, wash(no peeling) chop the seeds/cores out, cube then 1/2 cook with some pre cooked processed fruit (fruit paste).
Cook the cubed fruit in with processed fruit paste, add some sugar spices if needed + once near soft stop - put a side. Make the pastry/ crumble then lay you fruit in dish & crumble on top or blind bake for 10 mins for pastry the trim & add fruit - bake either one for no more than 40 mins in hot oven. Don't forget baking with a 50/50 mix of butter + lard mix will make your pastry last longer never oil based trex etc
Old veg/meat(frozen even) = casserole/stew with some meat
Process your veg, cutting out the bad bits peel or de-seed then chop your meat up into large cubes (meat will shrink in cooking). Pre 1/2 cook your veg in a pan with some butter - toss them in the main cooking dish as they are ready. Meat same pan, some more butter - melt the throw in your meat, moving them around + turning them to brown on outside, once near there heat off, just plain flour in to coat & soak up all the juices. Some stock that could be onion gravy, oxo etc -i use onion gravy 750ml-1000L add to pan mix well. Put all your seansoning into the main cooking pot, I use handful of bay leaves, pepper (white+brown) thyme salt dill, good table spoon of galic chips + garlic powder even some parsley. Add together, mix well put on stove, wait till is bubbles up then turn down to low leave for 1 /12 hours - stir the mix around on times. It ready to serve 6 hungry fellow/lasses or 3 extra staving gits at the table (one being me) Do note there no MSG or preservetives any near my cooking or this meal + it will last up to 5 days in a fridge plus can be rewarmed once after. Dont forget the fresh bread either
All can be made for less than £3.00 (not counting elecy) from your local fruit/veg/meat market just before closeing time on a friday (for me)
It's not hard to do, just you have think about what you are going do with what you have not how much money you are going spend on the food to make something. More you save you spend else where. I never if any go to any super market never even rubbish fast food joints either..me cheap as chips but still eat like a king with grand dinner every time.
Once you a tought, the key to living the good life on pennies & not even touching a man made chemical filled burger or roll in sight - living off the land in the countryside does that to you
You make the most of what you have not what you haven't got.
Hope this help out some

Well most would be too gone if you was going transported it to the east in the uk-wise it would be ok even if you ready cooked it all up then transported it up in temp controlled van etc. Plainly it well known that all the big chains stock there shevels 3x to the amount they need, for aperance sake - a empy shelf is not a good one, a full one is a better looking one.

Going slightly off topic, people say its not cheap to eat healthy, I could cook a meal for 4 for less than a fiver where a take away would be about £20.
