UK unemployment increases to 2.62m

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15747103

Quote:
UK unemployment rose by 129,000 in the three months to September to 2.62 million, as youth unemployment also rose above a million.

Quote:
"These figures show just how much our economy is being affected by the crisis in the eurozone," said Employment Minister Chris Grayling.

Not a very good picture as it stands and it is highly likely to get worse before it gets better.

Sad news really. The only possible silver lining is that economies tend to start recovering before unemployment starts falling. But, I guess that is grasping at straws

Why do they blame the Eurozone? I think they are just looking for a scapegoat to blame. The fact is business's here have no money to employ new staff because they are taxed to the hilt.

Yes there is some truth to that as all companies and people seem to be getting at the moment is rising taxes and they seem to bring them in stealthily.

Examples of this would be useful.

Re: UK unemployment increases to 2.62m

small businesses need definate relief for sure not sure on big businesses they to me need to change there ways to keep jobs or indeed increase them. When you hear they drop jobs increase bosses pay or meet rediculous pre-arranged shareholders dividends on shrinking profits.

Sadly do see massive increase read somewhere if it bites hard 2m could lose jobs.

If we could see that sort losses then we could be introuble.

Anybody got stats pre government financial problems to what is now to see how far its gone up now. thats when we not hit it hard yet. would expect it to slowly asselerate.

We yet to see impact shareholders pulling out shares too.

Are these "stealth taxes", as you stated in your post, and if so, could you provide some examples where they were "stealthily" increased?

A stealth tax is a tax levied in such a way that is largely unnoticed, or not recognized as a tax and one example of this is where the British Government diverted revenue from the National Lottery to fund public spending and also stamp duty is a stealth tax and also the revaluation of houses for council tax was a stealth tax as well.

Re: UK unemployment increases to 2.62m

You mean the stamp duty they abolished for first time buyers for properties under £150k, and the rest of the stamp duty rises were widely announced (unless you mean that being publicised in all the national press and media is the evil Tories sneaky way of hiding things away....).

Do you mean this stealthy council tax revaluation that didn't happen, and hasn't happened since 1993? BBC
Quote:
There will be no revaluation of council tax bands in England during this Parliament, the government has pledged.

It means there will be no rise in local taxes for householders based solely on the increased value of their homes.

Every property in England is in one of eight council tax bands, depending on value, and these were last set in 1993.
btw, you appear to be reaching into the past for examples, when you said in your post when you mentioned stealth taxes

As I asked before, could you provide examples of currently introduced stealth taxes, please?

Now Hugh did l mentioned the Tories no l did not because l did not want to be political but non political and as for recent stealth taxes don't you remember the wheelie bin taxes or the Green ‘stealth tax to encourage wind farms and nuclear power and also do not forget the (Hips) home information packs.

David Cameron and Clegg have to resign, they have no idea of how to get out of the problem.

Its at an all time high for 17 years, and all he is very about is abroad, he has to concentrate of BRITISH workers, and getting this country back on its feet.

He is getting involved in countries that should not concern him, he has to stop putting so many taxes on us, you cannot get blood out of a stone.

They both state that they will introduce training schemes to get people back to work, what for there is NO guaranteed work at the end of the scheme - l should know, l have been on a so called training scheme run by the government.

HIPS were abolished a year and a half ago (so not so much "at the moment", are they ), and it would be helpful if you could provide a link to this Green stealth tax*, as I don't remember having to pay this.

*unless you mean the Carbon Reduction Commitment, which isn't intended to be implemented until 2013

*or this made up story that the Mail had to retract

Re: UK unemployment increases to 2.62m

l am surprised you went into the Daily Mail as l did not get it from there but there are stealth taxes but people generally don't realise it as here are several examples of stealth taxes either now or being implemented in the coming years like Janusz Lewandowski, the European budget commissioner, wants tax raising powers to shift EU funding from national government transfers to EU-wide taxation on energy, travel or banking thus raising £3 billion from hard pressed UK taxpayers then there is the new €100 household charge which is also known as the property tax and also don't forget the wheelie bin tax which l have already mentioned in a previous post and l am sure there are several more which people don't realise that they are paying.
