Border control fiasco: it turns out Labour were at it too
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...rt-checks.html
Funny to think how all those Labour ex-home secretaries lined up during the week to give us the benefit of their experience whilst putting the boot into Teresa May ... When for the last FOUR YEARS, as a result of a Labour policy implemented on the quiet and never announced in Parliament, only the briefest of visual passport checks have been carried out on passengers entering the UK at a ferry terminal on a British-registered coach.
Apparently the French were moaning about queues in Calais caused by the checks being done properly ... You know, logging passport numbers, cross-referencing for known undesirables, inconvenient things like national security considerations.

Surprised how long it took them to come up with this one..after all blaming the previous government is the favourite ploy of every government since time immemorial.

I recall waving our passports at an immigration officer while sat on a coach back from a school trip to Paris in 1976. That was under a Labour government, so they've obviously been at it for ages.

So that is an excuse to carry it on. regardless of which government did what it is of no matter if a terrorist gets in and kills people under any government as it will be the responsibility of the party in power at the time if that happens because they failed to implement the laws of the land.
I believe stopping terrorists at the border is a damn sight more important than a urinating competition by rival party supporters, and the sooner we realise that fact the better.

This is set to become even more interesting.
It now appears that Brodie Clarke is to say that he was acting on instruction from the police when he relaxed the non EU checks.

Re: Border control fiasco: it turns out Labour were at it too
The fact that we have Labour MP's able to berate the current Home Secretary on the basis of lax regulation with regard to border controls is as ironic as it is sad and inexplicable. Who was who said that the Home Office was 'unfit for purpose' and what did they do about it during their many years in office with a big majority? The fact that little appears to have changed since Bliar and his inept cronies were booted out is astounding and evidence that things are so badly out of control that there's nothing anyone can do whether they want to or not.
Oh, and why is it that the sound of that sanctimonious hypocrite Keith Vaz banging on about rules being bent gets right up my nose?

Re: Border control fiasco: it turns out Labour were at it too
Just listening to BBC radio and Brodie Clark's appearance in front of the Home Affairs Committee:
http://www.parliament.uk/business/co...s/111109-ukba/
Some of what little I heard about the implementation of border controls ought to beggar belief but after so many years listening to this sort of thing I'm not surprised in the slightest. For example, so far as our border controls are concerned, it seems potential health and safety issues outweigh even potential national security issues now.....
Anyway, I dare say the salient points will be discussed in detail as the day progresses but I still find Labour's 'outrage' at what's apparently been going on as hypocritical as it is opportunist.
