Who's the cheapest?
http://www.ntlworld.com/money/story....toryid=4471877
None of them, I shop at Morrisons who beat Asda and TESO hands down on price and the quality of the food, Ive been shoping at Morrisons for the last 5 years, a few weeks ago we diecided to shop at Asda in Mansfield, "never again". The price came to over £100 for a weeks shopping, most of the food needed eating on that day, some of the food was out of date. The next week we deceded to try Tesco, same again over £100 the food was not fit for a pig never mind a human. We bought exactly the same things at the other 2 to what we buy at Morrisons. The next week we went back to Morrisons our shopping bill was back down to £80, we bought exactly the same stuff from Morrisons like we did at Asda and Tesco.

Re: Who's the cheapest?
I hate Asda with a vengeance. This is probably because the one we have that is so called local sits on Cardiff Bay and has been condemned in the press here for having um rat droppings, saliva, human hair and other detrius in its food, dirty bakery and so on.
We do have a local Tesco and its clean welcoming and the staff are fantastic. The only problem is they don't seem to have the facilities that Morrisons has. WE were one of the first Morrisons in South Wales and it is well loved and well used by the local community. It even gets visitors from the Rhondda and Swansea!!
Morrisons here is fantastic, it's cheap, the food is good and for the last three weeks I haven't spotted any hock burn on its fresh chickens. It provides good food at very reasonable prices and as Nidge says in his post is cheaper and probably cleaner than Asda.
Why oh why do people take notice of unrepresentative surveys ?

Re: Who's the cheapest?
I think cheapest place to shop depends on what kind of foods you buy, and whether you have an allegance to a particular brand.
For example, In Tesco a can of value beans would cost me 2p. In Asda it would be 3p. However, a can of Heinz beans in Tesco might be 17p, whereas in Asda will be 15p.
I tend not to buy value goods, and now shop at Sainsburys normally, and Tesco sometimes. I have noticed no difference at all in the average bill, however Sainsbury's gives me Nectar points so i prefer to go there
nb- prices are for illustrative purposes only!

You are correct Chris it does go on what sort of food you buy, I like good quality food at a good price, Morrisons tend to deal in that sort of thing, Sain said that the chickens are of a good quality I'll 2nd that, Asda's chicken counter in Mansfield got closed down for 3 months due to health and safety reasons, Tesco in Mansfield is a dirty dull hole. My missus noticed Asda alter their prices everyday accordning to the day of the week, when it's slack their prices come down a few pence, when it's busy for example Friday Saturday the prices go back up a few pence.
These surveys are of no good to anyone, they only focus on their own brands, most things we never buy, get a survey done on the food items not the none food items.

Re: Who's the cheapest?
My Mum generally shops in Lidl to avoid a bus trip or drive - I get to drink a lot of obscure German bargain lager on visits home.
Prost!

Do you not check the use-by dates before you put the food in your trolley? Granted, the shop should not have had out of date food on display, but to actually get home with it before you noticed strikes me as a bit foolish.

Re: Who's the cheapest?
I use Asda (cheapest, imo) or Tesco (nicer, imo)... and the ones here are clean
Morrisons in Swindon is crap, but I know that in Wales it's much better and much cheaper than the other supermarkets. One in Newport puts the Swindon one to shame Ours was previously a Safeway, so that might explain why there's a difference

Re: Who's the cheapest?
Food in this country is too cheap. People want to buy chickens for £1.75 a kilo. Quality costs more, but even if you pay £6 a kilo at a local farm for the best quality there is it's hardly going to break the bank.
Me, I go to Waitrose for most stuff though if I'm desparate Sainsburys or even (if I'm really, really, desparate ) Tescos, and local farms for as much as I can.

Re: Who's the cheapest?
I'm just considering swapping from Tesco to Asda because my local Tesco has "downsized" a whole bunch of stuff I buy, either not supplying it any more or only supplying smaller packets meaning that I'm going to a) run out sooner and b) pay a higher price per kilo (or whatever) because I don't get the same economies of scale

Re: Who's the cheapest?
I have used Asda for years now well since they used to be Dales which used to be located where Carcraft are now in Rochdale, brilliant store and the staff at Rochdale have bent over backwards to help out at times.

Re: Who's the cheapest?
I stear clear of supermarkets, they all sell disgusting foods at disgustingly cheap prices with as much chemicals pumped in them as possible, perhaps im lucky living in the countryside i have a wealth of farm shops, and local butchers etc...
If we all learned to not rely on supermarkets the world would be a better place, and you wouldn't spend that much more...
