Is This A Parody?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/ar...E-METCALF.html

I'm trying to work out if this is a genuine article or a very clever parody.

And some people here call me a snob, etc, grief.

EDIT: I just realised this story looks like it could have been written by one of the mums at my daughter's school. If I ever consider writing like that anything other than laughable snobbery I need a slap. A bloody hard one.

That's a redraft.

I saw the original where she blamed muslims, immigrants bent coppers and rioting students for her seasonal woes.

I dont see any snobbery but a very honest story of how her life has changed for the worst when she had it all before.

I should be glad I read it. It reminded me how lucky I am to not be so shallow as to measure my self-worth in terms of what I have but rather what I am and how I got it

EDIT: Regarding snobbery..

Quote:
To put it simply: I may be middle class, but I’m poverty-stricken.
Give me a break.

How many families, I wonder, are tormented by the question: can I spend less this year without looking horribly mean?
I'm not, I've no interest in associating with people who would consider me mean for spending less on their children in times where people are, as a whole, less well off. Anyone who thinks that, or fears it, is living in a bubble far removed and totally insulated from the real world.

Re: Is This A Parody?

I think it is the snobbery of a person who has overstretched themselves with silly mortgages and outlandish expenditure and now finds herself plonked back to earth as the recession has hit home.

She only mentions that her salary has more than halved with no mention of her partners, it is about time people like her saw how the other half actually lives.

I feel quite sorry for her. They bought a country house to go with the two they already own in London. How can any family be expected to live in only three houses?

I know a woman exactly like that. the kids don't know mummy isn't as rich as she was, but she's too scared to let them know what it's like living within your means.

Re: Is This A Parody?

£5000 a month and 3 houses is middle class? Ye gods how much do you have to earn to be rich?

I'm quite glad she's been brought down a peg or two. Christmas is not a celebration of commercialism and oppulence. It's a celebration of life, family, and for the few of us christians left, a celebration of the life of Jesus Christ.

Listening to well-to-do women moan about curbing their ridiculous spending in Femail is the equivalent of MPs moaning about being caught ripping the pee out of their expenses.

Re: Is This A Parody?

That's almost as bad as Liz Jones moaning about how much debt she's in and how bank managers are evil for not giving her a bigger overdraft so she can feed her horses.

Re: Is This A Parody?

I think she's full of it ,i think she's raking money (how much has she been paid for this article?) writing for the spectator ,the mail ,the times ,the times on sunday and the telegraph not to mention quite a few documentaries
here's a list
and another article about her ,a reaction to the one printed in the mail

Re: Is This A Parody?

Welcome to reality, love - we spend what we can afford, and if we can't afford it, we don't spend it (and don't moan about it).

A telling point (for me) in that article was her quote
Quote:
My mother was lucky because my grandmother provided us with tin upon tin of home-made mince pies and a Christmas cake. I would love to bake, but I don’t have time
Strange - my wife works four day a week, but she still has time.
