Re: A New 'Political Labels' Quiz

Some very "American" questions there about politics and religion that I'd guess many in the UK would agree on irrespective of whether they are right or left leaning, bit of fun though.

Re: A New 'Political Labels' Quiz

It is a bit of fun indeed.

It's too easy for people to get caught up in 'right' and 'left' points of view, worth remembering that someone can be liberal but fiscally conservative and likewise someone can be a long way to the left fiscally but strongly authoritarian.

A more UK-focussed equivalent would be good though, or at least some baseline as to where well known UK figures sit in the grand scheme.

On the other hand Political Compass seems to agree with it, amusingly

Re: A New 'Political Labels' Quiz

I tried taking it but the questions are unanswerable.

For example:

"Public radio and television funded by the state provide a valuable service the citizens".

The BBC provides a very valuable service. However North Korea's equivalent, less so.

And then you get ones like "Unions were indispensible in establishing the middle class"

I still don't know what it actually means, let alone what relevence it has to anything.

You guys are better off taking the original quiz which is more country independent

Here's my result from the proper quiz. (And it may suprise a few)

Economic Left/Right: -1.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.38

I've taken it before somewhere but can't find my result to see how it's changed.

I agree. Some of the questions in the quiz that ignitionnet posted were unanswerable. Here's my political compass. I'm the Dalai Lama...

Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.82

Another vote for the 'original' political compass. As I suspected, the 'new' one is weighted towards American mores and obsessions ... it gives me a very left-wing, authoritarian score. The original political compass gives me a more moderate left-of-centre, libertarian assessment, that simply feels like a more accurate reflection of my personal political thinking.

Economic Left/Right: -4.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.74
