Re: Chinese woman sues cinema
Or, whilst the adverts were showing, she could have visited the refreshments counter, got some popcorn and Coke, and whilst she was there, if they had any, got a life..................

Reading about the main feature film the adverts were the best part of the program.

10 Yuan is worth about a pound so she's asking for £6.50 in compensation and ticket price.

Re: Chinese woman sues cinema
Advert before films in this country seem to be getting longer as well. I tend to want to be in the cinema before the advertised start time, of the course the start time is when the ads start. Last time it was 30min until the film started. Joke.

I also hate adverts that im forced to watch on DVD as well.
At least when they were on VHS you could ffwd past them.
I think she was right to complain though..

Thats been the average time for years. I last worked in a cinema in 2001 and there were always 12-14 mins of adverts followed by about 16mins of trailers.
Sometimes the morning and early morning showings will maybe have 15-20mins instead.
The advertised time is usually the programme start time and not the actual movie start time.

You can, in a sense, if a) you're watching the DVD on a computer and b) if the software you're using supports bookmarks. You only have to watch it all once, all the blurb, adverts, 'You Wouldn't Steal A Movie' and all the rest of the crud that really really pushes people into piracy if for no other reason than to save themselves the sheer annoyance - then when the film actually starts, set a bookmark. The next time you watch that DVD, just go to the bookmark and voila!
Now if only standalone DVD players would support bookmarks you could save onto the player in the same way, the crud would be defeated for good and maybe, just maybe, the studios would get the message and stop wasting storage by putting it there!
