Church Pastor to burn Quran on 9/11
Quote:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The government turned up the pressure Tuesday on the head of a small Florida church who plans to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11, warning him that doing so could endanger U.S. troops and Americans everywhere.
But the Rev. Terry Jones insisted he would go ahead with his plans, despite criticism from the top U.S. general in Afghanistan, the White House and the State Department, as well as a host of religious leaders.
Jones, who is known for posting signs proclaiming that Islam is the devil's religion, says the Constitution gives him the right to publicly set fire to the book that Muslims consider the word of God.
Gen. David Petraeus warned Tuesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press that "images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan — and around the world — to inflame public opinion and incite violence." It was a rare example of a military commander taking a position on a domestic political matter.
Jones responded that he is also concerned but is "wondering, 'When do we stop?'" He refused to cancel the protest set for Saturday at his Dove World Outreach Center, a church that espouses an anti-Islam philosophy.
"How much do we back down? How many times do we back down?" Jones told the AP. "Instead of us backing down, maybe it's to time to stand up. Maybe it's time to send a message to radical Islam that we will not tolerate their behavior."

It will happen if he does. they're hardly likely to just shrug it off.
that's if they don't get to him first and have a quiet word.

Religion has so much to answer for. Look what or does to some people. I thought it was meant to be about peace, harmony and tolerance, regardless what book you read?

Actually this is more about increasing the size of a flagging congregation and raising more funds..
Yes I am that cynical.

I feel sorry for those that will have to put themselves at risk protecting this idiot after he does this.

Re: Church Pastor to burn Quran on 9/11
What a nasty little man. Don't think he'll find many people of his own faith, what he claims to be his faith, supporting this evil action. Even the Muslim extremists usually burn American flags than Bibles, since it's Western culture more than religion which provokes their ire.
Still what better way to show you better than them by descending to their level. Pathetic.

You would be correct. What we get instead is trouble , some more trouble then someone ends up dead because one cannot get on with the others.

And for the vast majority of all members of the major religions it is. It's not religion but nutter ideology that provokes most of it. I think this pastor is motivated by nationalism or xenophobia than Christianity, he seems to have no religious issue.

Re: Church Pastor to burn Quran on 9/11
What a completely pathetic action to even consider in private much less publicise and really does show the level of this man and his personal standards. While i am a godless heathen i maintain the respect for the books that all religions are based on and would never contemplate doing this to any of them. How anyone that claims to follow a god of any sort can act so disrepectfully towards the book of faith of another religion for me shows that this man has no real religion or belief. Small american trying to make himself big through a pathetic act.

Re: Church Pastor to burn Quran on 9/11
I would say that the intended actions of this Pastor are purely to highlight his small sect.
If Islam is really the faith of peace, why do its' adherents get so animated over cartoons and a book burning.
Or is Islam so flawed and corrupt that it cannot stand up to close scrutiny?

So I wonder when he'll be hosting a "burn a Torah day".

You painting everyone with the same brush, not all adherents get so animated but I guess they do feel disappointed that idiots seem to want to offend them just to get a reaction.
