Yes, fair enough. But you'd be in trouble if you were to throw racial slur at a black person in that same bar. Likewise, you can be done for libel/slander. The point is that there are limitations. Some legal, some moral (depending on your morals), but freedom of speech is not unconditional.

I don't think I've said otherwise.
But apart from certain areas and laws as stated, the conditions are down to your own checks and balances.
Not the checks and balances of others, and that is my point.

I accept other peoples opinions, but it doesn't meant that I agree with them - to coin your phrase, I'll never 'go crying' about anything but, to use this proposed burning of the Qu'ran as an example, I find that extremely offensive.
I speak as a complete agnostic, but the burning of any religious text is an act deliberately designed to cause offense to a certain part of the relevant society, be it the Qu'ran, the Torah, the Bible or any other religious text you may choose to follow - publicity has its place, but action for the hope of inflamatory retaliation (which I honestly believe Pastor Jones wants) is plainly wrong...

And never should you have to, I don't think anyone is asking you to?

And once again, you are entitled to be offended, but what do you expect others to do about you feeling offended?
No one is under any obligation to care how you feel.........as being offended is a subjective feeling. Nothing more.

As is, for example, burning a flag?

But surely the "inflamatory retaliation" is an issue for those retaliating?
Surely it is better to ignore? rather than fan the flames?
If I verbally call you a ***ker, and then as a result of that you then beat me up..........who is the worst????????????????????????????????

Have to agree with this because I see your point.
burning a book that let's say could have been written by fairies, is a lot less serious and offensive than burning a flag of a country.
to burn a flag is making a statement against all that the flag represents. it can be seen as more offensive when it's done by persons that are of a different flag. but choosing to live in the country of the flag they are burning.

Pete, I thought you were joining up?
You don't appear to be living up to (at least one of) the standards expected, in the "Values and Standards of the British Army" document.
Quote:
Respect for Others
15 Respect for others is a hallmark of the British Army: it comes from the duty to put others first and means that there is no place for prejudice or favouritism. Like loyalty, respect for others goes both up and down the chain of command and sideways among peers.
The Army’s recruiting motto ‘Be the Best’ can only have meaning if all members of it have equality of treatment and opportunity.

Or he was just threatening to do it to gain publicity and actually had no intention of burning the Quran.
