Nice to see cognitive dissonance in action.
What about the impact on those affected by the backlash against this "pathetic political statement" - do you "wholeheartedly support" that?

Ridicule, maybe, shame I'm not so sure - there will always be some people willing to condone symbolic gestures like this.
Personally the only problem I have is the question of why, if symbolism is not encouraged in Islam, is the physical book being destroyed seen as a problem?
Apologies if I misunderstand, but the Qur'an isn't being destroyed, just a few copies?

According the the BBC ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11238062 ), Muslims do consider any attempt to damage or show disrespect to the Quran to be offensive.
I suspect some Christians would get offended if Muslims organised a mass Bible bonfire.

With the bible. I personally wouldn't and couldn't give a stuff if they or anyone did. so it would only be a select few with the bible. but all with the quran.

your not wrong there
Quote:
"If the government fails to stop this, this will be the latest manifestation of religious terrorism, and it would ruin America's relations with the Muslim world," said Sheikh Abdel Muti al-Bayyumi.
"This will give an opportunity to terrorism. Are they trying to fight terrorism or encourage it?" he sked.

While I personally believe that most Christians would not bother about it, I don't believe that based on any individual's reaction..
Oh, I suspect 95% of Muslims wouldn't be bothered either..

I know. but at the end of the day (I hate that phrase) it's not much different to the bible. where it is thought to be a work of fiction. written by religious fanatics inspired by a God.

There have already been protests in the Afghan capital Kabul and in Indonesia - the world's largest Muslim-majority country - against his plans while Iran has warned it could unleash an uncontrolled Muslim response.
