Re: Wiltshire policeman faces sack for cell attack on woman

This happened 2 years ago and he is still getting full pay and he will only be convicted by a magistrates court so will likely only get a light sentence, but at least he should lose his job because of his conduct.

Re: Wiltshire policeman faces sack for cell attack on woman

It's turning into a 'them and us' thing lately with some police officers.
the police woman who reported him has been given a commendation for daring to speak up against him

They must cringe when these cases come out.

Magistrates can refer defendents to a Crown Court for sentencing if they believe that maximum tarrif they can impose (6 months) isn't sufficient. So he could end up getting more.

I wouldn't have thought his assault was worthy of much more than that as people with broken limbs normally get suspended or community sentences, but the other guy got 2 years for a similar offence and injury so who knows?

One thing to point out is that this case was brought by other coppers informing on him which was right.

We will have to wait until Tuesday to find out what sentence he is given or if it is sent to the high court which I doubt will happen.

Re: Wiltshire policeman faces sack for cell attack on woman

Suspended with full pay. If I was caught doing that on camera, I somehow don't think I would be suspended with full pay.

And why did it take a colleague to report it to get anything done? Did the woman complain, and the police just ignore, until another officer decide to take it further.

And if so, how many other "crimes" like this are covered up. Can we count that high?

Since the first part of your question is unquantifiable, the second part is rhetorical....

btw, the Officer's actions are totally inappropriate, and he should be punished for his crime.

The officer made the mistake of assaulting a woman. If he'd done that to a man, no one would have batted an eyelid. Morality's a funny thing.

The second part is speculation, not rhetoric

The first part is unquantifiable, hence being a question.

The officer was filmed and the woman bled so if a similar incident happened to a man the is no reason that it should not be reported as well because gender does not give anyone the right to abuse a prisoner.

I suppose that all depends on your job, I assume you don't believe in the whole innocent until proven guilty thing and want people shot at dawn the second allegations are made?

BTW I'm in no way condoning what happened. I know prisoners can sometimes be 'difficult' but I cannot imagine any case where that level of force would be needed.

Do you honestly think the police can just ignore allegations of assault, especially ones resulting in injury?

I honestly speculate. It could equally be asked, do you really believe that the police never covers up crimes?
