According to a few media commentators her earnign potential in the years to come will eclipse that of Wayne's. She has crafted out a 'brand' in her own right. Yes initially her 'rise to fame' was due to being married to Rooney but she is not dependent on him for future success.

There are plenty of couples who have worked through a partners' infedility for reasons other than money though, so even though she might have done it for the money when they were going out, she could have other reasons for staying put now (considering she doesnt really need his money anymore and could take him to the cleaners).

I don't doubt that she will be able to carry on afterwards for a time, but I don't see any longevity, especially if Wayne found another WAG.

Because she knows that in order to create the "brand" they needed to be together.

She/they - but I really think she, as he's not smart enough - has always tried to market themselves as the new posh and becks.

Now, this is getting ridiculous. It's wednesday now, and they still seem to consider this "news".

TBH, I don't think it was even really news on Sunday, at least then it was something we didn't know. At best on Sunday, it was gossip. Something which so often passes for News these days..

Funny how The Sun are still covering it so extensively. Almost as if they are trying to cover something up.

If i'm honest the only thing about this that has any interest whatsoever is that it will be one more thing to put off real football fans and cut the money going into the premier league. As a true fan of football for over 30 years money has killed so many of the aspects of the british game that used to make us unique and has created monsters in some of the people in the premier league in terms of what they get paid and how they think they can behave. If this and more like it can slowly start to turn people against them then i am all for it football has always been a business but the point it is at now has and is continuing to take any enjoyment of it from the real supporters.

I don't know. The '66 world cup squad had many flawed characters as well. I certainly don't think that footballers of previous generations had any better moral standing either but rather a press that was much less interested in celebrity gossip.

As for the game itself then I am not sure it's got worse. I think it's a much more inclusive sport now, it appeals to a much wider audience than the working class roots in which it was based. This means there tends to be a wider section of the population at football matches even if it has meant the atmosphere has declined somewhat.

The greater inclusion, alongside better policing and club activity, has meant a lot of the riots, fights, racism and general thuggery has declined massively in the last 10 or 20 years as well.

The level of investment has also allowed the Premier League to be a lot more open to different styles of play, mostly those from the continent who continued to develop their styles of play and their tactical awareness while England didn't so much.

So I think Football overall has gotten much better....

I'm not defending Rooney, but I wonder how many people on here would be able to cope with the attention and money that these players get. You've got to be quite a determined and confident character to ward off the competition and get to perform at that level. Then add in all the adoration, attention and money that is thrown your way and it's no surprise that some/many of them 'crack'. I certainly don't think I'd be able to keep a level head in those conditions.

I'm reminded of the bell-boy who asked George Best 'where did it all go wrong?' when bringing champagne up to a hotel room where he found George with a half naked lady and piles of money on the bed...
