A cooling off period ?

I think he still wouldn't perform where he should.
I'm just sick of the way the sport has degenerated I guess.

I'd say pay him off (they can afford it and it would show the club/s in a better light in my eyes). Take responsibility for their having employed him.
He's obviously not going to be happy to move to a lesser club I think, as other disgracees have done.

Off me soapbox

Its all very well saying that but you have to realise that football is a business and which business is going to let a big asset walk out the door.

If they did sack him he would just end up at Chelsea/Barca/Madrid. Not really lesser clubs.

To me football is a sport, whether it's my kids in the back garden, in the play ground, on a plain piece of dirt/grass/sand or in somewhere that has turnstiles.
It's the business side (I think mainly SKY) that has wrecked it for me and I gave up my season ticket seat to goodness knows who. The schedules beat my work demands.

I'm an oldie and liked the days when there was NO live tv coverage, was over the moon if my team were featured on match of the day, shivered watching after school matches, training and gave up Sunday mornings and shivered again and shared a coffee with a valued player who had served his time and got passed on for £50.

I prefer ice hockey and speedway now - it all seems a lot more honest and is at the same time fragile.

I can't quite see Rooney as that much of an asset...

Re: Rooney Exposed

He isn't going to the reserves, he won't be transfered out the club.

Although it would be naive to suggest that his personal life has no relevance to his work life as his image is a commercial asset for the club which his actions have put at risk. However it isn't the main concern of the club or the manager, his main job is to play football and he is their best player.

In most cases a worker having an affair is not grounds for any action or dismissal at work. This is also not akin to the John Terry incident as it does not involve another member of the team.

Football was a business long before Sky came along. 1979 was the first £1 million transfer.

Ice Hockey and speedway are both businesses as well. After all those players from Canada and the States don't come over here to play for free.

And Rooney is a huge asset to manchester utd despiet his off the field activities.

I agree and know that well
The riders ride wherever they get invited and paid - seversl clubs at a time no matter how long the air trawl is.
and mostly the US icers are here because we can offer them a different direction, after their fit playing period, with qualifications (well - in my home town) and if for some reson they can't ice there - say a wages shutdown - they can still acrue points and certainly show 'us' a bit of edge.

I like the fact that they paid from that night's takings and go off and work the next morning and get over their bruises just like I do.

Hmphh - still on me soapbox
and am completely
So I'll leave it there

Re: Rooney Exposed

Some people he a talented footballer and as long as he puts the ball in the net, who cares what he does off the pitch.

Too me the best player l have seen is George Best, and look what happened to him, we have footballers that are paid a lot of money, we also have footballers who wear the England shirt with pride, we had a footballer who was over exsposed as a great footballer, he played in the worst World Cup l have ever seen, and what did we get a footballer with no balls, and his manager said, the finals was too much for him, absolutely cobblers, l have seen better players on a Sunday morning, with more passion for the shirt they are playing in, he is an over paid, over rated little ****.

Re: Rooney Exposed

Adultery happens in every profession, I don't see why football should be treated any differently, a private life is exactly that. If the gutter press are so keen on footballers setting a good example they shouldn't publicise their bad behaviour. It's not in the public interest, it's only of interest to nosey old gossips with nothing better to read.

I read a snippet from MAx Clifford today saying footballers don't have to worry about their fans or clubs reaction to these sorts of revelations and its only the reaction of their wives they need to worry about.

Coleen is pretty succesful in her own right, as opposed to other wags that have come and gone. It will be interesting to see what her reaction is, especially considering that he has previous in seeing prostitutes.
