My friend's younger brother has been stabbed.
My friend's brother lives (with his parents) in Whitstable, and was apparently walking in the local park when he was set upon and stabbed.
Thankfully, the Police have arrested someone, and my friend's brother is making a recovery in hospital.
Hopefully, he will recover fully.

Stuart that awful. I do hope he recovers and the person responsible is dealt with to the full extent of the law.

good news I dread my lad getting older, I wonder if he'd mind me tagging along whenever he goes out. I could go live in New Zealand whenever I want but something always crops up and having a good job here puts me off moving, its stories like this that make me think what it will be like here when hes the age of being out n about
Maggy, I think you may be right but theres all sorts to blame it on, TV, games, music etc etc etc obviously the old days of mum staying at home with the kids being gone has a negative impact. Thats not me being sexist but thats the major thing thats changed

You can blame it on all sorts, but with good parenting the other stuff you mention doesn't have so much of an impact.
I think that people can learn violence from games, TV and films, but only if they don't have a parent (preferably both, but that's not always possible) that they respect teaching them violence is wrong.

Re: My friend's younger brother has been stabbed.
Theres been stuff Ive been watching when I thought my son was asleep and I was mortified at some of the stuff he picked up on. When we see a police van he pretends to shoot it, hes not even 3. He thinks police are "bad guys" You might blame that on bad parenting but I've done my best I now constantly have to cope with kids TV because I dont want him picking up on bad things, I've even had to stop going on my PS3 whilst he's awake.
He loves dancing and music videos, these arent all good, games with shooting arent good but who else plays them with kids around, normal TV is even a big no no. They are like sponges absorbing everything around them, my nephew acts like its ok to knife someone and hes 7.
Im determined he wont turn out like we all dont want them to but it gets hard when everywhere you turn theres violence, even the news is a no go.
When I was younger my mum wouldnt even let me have a toy gun, when I was 15 she slapped me round the face infront of my mates when she found I had a pellet gun. Now my son runs round making peeooow poeeeooow noises at police cars and I can see where she was coming from
I hope he recovers ok mate, at 14 they should be playing footy in the park, when I was 14 you might get a threat of a beating but not being knifed, times have changed for the worse

Glad to hear that, Stu - it is still an awful thing to have happened & I hope it doesn't affect him after the physical wound has healed ..

My generation played at cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians and all that stuff back in the 50s and 60s.We had toy guns and when we didn't we used our fingers. We had pen knives(not flick knives though) but we never stabbed anyone.
I wandered the back streets of Portsmouth and never thought of being attacked by anyone let alone being stabbed.I taught in one of the roughest Portsmouth secondary schools during the 70s and 80s and the kids didn't carry knives. They beat each other up though they were more likely to beat up the inmates of the next school over but knives were never involved.
In fact knives only became an issue with teenagers during the 90s.I'm trying to rack my brains as to why and I just can't think what was the turning point.

Re: My friend's younger brother has been stabbed.
I though Labour was going to bring in a MINIMUM term or prison for just CARRYING a knife illegally? Or was that another throwaway, kneejerk comment by one of them?

Re: My friend's younger brother has been stabbed.
I think the problem these days is discipline, ever since parents have not been allowed to smack their kids they have just been running riot, bring back corporal punishment, they'll soon learn right from wrong

I don't think there is a real solution anymore. I think it's gone past the point of no return.
I believe that it was all down to not being able to discipline your own kids without the threat of legal action. the kids got used to this and in some cases rule the parents instead of them ruling them.
some parents have the attitude of 'you' sort them out.
