Re: Cameron backs Turkish EU membership

My neighbour is now a UK citizen after marrying our female neighbour in his Turkish homeland. He has worked very hard to become "British", but he knows of dozens of illegal Turks living in our locale already... he has told immigration about them, but they were totally disinterested.

He says that many, many more will come here, even if they remain illegal, as life in Turkey has become almost impossible since the financial collapse around the world. So many people chasing so few jobs that wages are easily knocked down to poverty levels by bosses.

He also sees that the division of State and Mosque is being rapidly eroded, and the military (who would normally prevent this) are being pre-emptively arrested or bullied by the present govenment. A true Islamic state is what he sees the future holds, against the wishes of the mass population.

Turning a blind eye to Turks drinking alcohol has already been attacked with cafes and bars being turned into Schools of Islam by State orders. Pork butchers for the large non-Islamic population are being hounded out of business, also by State orders.

Introduction of EU standards to things like taxation, licencing, driving, etc will drive the population deeper into poverty, as it is already doing in Eastern Europe, forcing migration to "the streets lined with gold" in Western European countries.

And then there's the PKK Kurdish "problem"... do we want that spilling over into OUR streets?

That would be the same Government that chose not to implement a cap on Polish immigration when that country joined the EU, even though that option was available to them ... unsurprisingly I hold neither their predictions nor their immigration planning in very high regard.

Turkey isn't going to be in the club any time soon but there are very good strategic reasons for Cameron to cozy up to them. If and when they do eventually get in, Cameron knows he will have access to transitional rules allowing immigration to be restricted.

Re: Cameron backs Turkish EU membership

As has been said this is a political thing nothing more he knows damn well we cannot change the minds of the french and germans and therefore turkey has no chance of getting in. What he is doing though is making the UK a more preferred option for turkey in many areas of business and giving us an advantage seems to me thats what we have pm's for.

As for vast amounts of turks coming to this country if they did get membership i have news for you most of the likely ones are already here. We are already getting the illegals if he can put us in a position to make some money out of turkey then i am all for it.
