Solve an argument on drink driving
Here is a very good question, l was asked the other day.
If you work for a bus company or train company, what is the legal limit ie 12 / 24 / 48 hours before you commence work.
That is a good question, and something l am still puzled at, any comments.

Re: Solve an argument on drink driving
The same LAW applies (ie - over the limit, you can't drive), but the company may enforce it's own RULES about drinking / driving time gaps.

Re: Solve an argument on drink driving
An old friend of mine who drove hgv would never drink 24 hours before he was due to leave but i don't know if that was personal caution or some sort of rule\law sorry not much help.

Re: Solve an argument on drink driving
Most bus company's operate a zero tollerance policy on drink and drugs.
They have a random testing procedure and if any alcohol is found drivers are treated on the amount found. Less than the legal limit but over the company 'allowance' and you face dismissal. Just a small reading and the driver will be sent home off pay and be disciplined when they return the following day.
There is also a 'with reason' testing policy. If a driver is suspected of drinking then they will be tested immediately and processed as above.
This is the common policy followed by most company's

Re: Solve an argument on drink driving
It can take 12 hours for alcohol to leave the system, so as a rule I don't drink the night be I drive (Holidays etc)

I know if an airline pilot is suspected of being over the limit the police will be called and they will be breath tested, if they fail they are arrested and they kiss there £200,000+ career goodbye

Re: Solve an argument on drink driving
London Underground require zero units in the 8 hours before duty and no more than 4 units (I think) in the 24 hours before duty. Any alcohol at all on company premises is a disciplinary offence, even shopping locked in the boot of your car is prohibited if it is on company premises.

Re: Solve an argument on drink driving
I'd be very surprised if there were any "limit" at all Arthur, considering the responsibility that bus, train and plane drivers/pilots have I'd imagine any alcohol in the body would be too much.

Bus company then legally the same as driving anything else (80 milligrammes per 100ml of blood)
Airline pilots - (20 per 100ml)
Train drivers - (30 per 100ml - I think)
Thats the legal limits that exceeding will end up with you in front of a court, a lot of companies will have lower limits that breaching will result in you getting fired.
