Muslim woman wearing veil 'refused bus ride' in London
Quote:
Two Muslim women have claimed they were refused a bus ride because one had her face covered by a veil.
The 22-year-old students, of Slough, Berkshire, were in London and boarded a Metroline bus from Russell Square to Paddington on Tuesday.
But they said when they presented their tickets the driver told them they were a "threat" to passengers and ordered them off the bus.
The student said the driver told her and her friend that they were a "threat" to both him and his passengers.
She asked for his contact details but when he refused she began to film him with her mobile phone and he covered his face with a magazine.
"I said, 'it's OK for you to cover your face on my recording but it's not OK for my friend to cover her face out of choice?'
|
I'd say there might be more to this, in that the company may have guidelines, and it wasn't just the bus drivers opinion that caused all the trouble.

I think that a lot of stories like this, reported by muslims, are going to hit the headlines.

With the ever increasing threat of terrorism, covering the face is unacceptable. France banned it & we should too.

I wonder if this paragraph in the article was deliberate...
Quote:

However Atoofa, who had her face covered by the veil, said she hoped the driver would be educated about why women wear the traditional Islamic dress, rather than face the sack.

They might as well. After all the times they get reported to the press for nonsense 'look what the Muslims are doing now' stories.

Another? How about all the made up 'Muslim this bans PC gorn mad' stories? We bother with them all the time on here. Are you saying the entire religion ought to suck up the lies and smears without protest, or exercise the right of free speech?
Anyway, it's sort of a rule of mine that 'x banned from bus' stories are generally false unless strong proof emerges - remember that 'Polish bus driver' story a few months back that turned out to be someone's attempt to get money out of the Sun for old rope. Then there are all the 'Muslim bus driver banned my dog' stories which are likewise iffy - obviously any driver making such a decision is going to be heavily disciplined - what usually turns out to happen is that either a passenger was complaining or the driver was exercising his right of discretion over allowing dogs on board. You can't actually tell someone's religion by looking at them, but people know that dropping the word 'Muslim' into a story increases the publicity factor.

You're right. let's ignore them moaning how hard done by they are all the time. we'll probably find out soon that she normally wears jeans and a top, and only done it since she heard about the fuss with the banning of the burqa

Re: Muslim woman wearing veil 'refused bus ride' in London
I am just sick of hearing negative usually rubbish storys about islam, here's an idea how about they go out and cover some of the many positive things that the majority of the muslim population in the UK do, or is that just too much like hard work and it's easy to take up this sort of stuff all the time.

I think if we were to ban it, we might give the bombers an excuse. so it's probably best that we don't.
