Hospital cleaning for you my man..
I've got a feeling you'll fit in just fine with the crew doing the job at the moment.

Re: Unemployed trial slave labour.
There will be promises of a full time job given to the right slaves that do a good job for an employer.
(unless he or she is stupid enough to pay you a full wage when he can just ask for another slave to take your place, this won't happen.)
full time workers could be made redundant with the intention of taking on slaves to take their place.

Probably not but its gets them out of the house and into a routine that doesn't involve drinking themselves into oblivion by noon.
If you held the threat of removal of benefits over their heads for purposely fouling up it might motivate them a bit more.

Re: Unemployed trial slave labour.
Apparently it's only a pilot scheme. Now who would want to get on a plane flown by somebody so poorly paid.

It is slave labour nothing more and employers will abuse this scheme as they did with that other failure YTS and I would fully expect such a scheme to fail in a very short time.
If we want people to work then we pay them the minimum wage not a ridiculous sum such as the one advocated here.
Even the threat of losing some form of benefit will not work as that would be seen by the courts as an infringement of their human rights.
I feel that people who can work should be made to work, but not as a form of cheap slave labour, next we will be making them wear a badge or an armband as we further segregate society.

Do you think that 40 hours work a week is too much or ok?
it's about £232 if you were on minimum wage.
it's 8 hours a day. no time at all to look for a way out of the slave trap you're in.
unless you do 6 months on and six months off.
you can threaten and bully people as much as you want. there's only so much they will take before they snap.
working alongside somebody that's getting over £230 a week doing the same job you're doing for dole money. is probably enough reason for trouble.

I can see many saying they won't work slave labour, and the benefit advisor will tell them that they will lose their benefits if they don't comply.
you will just have people signing off. and crime will increase drastically.
people live to survive. and surviving on no money means trouble for everyone.

I can imagine various people will be chosen.
the quiet ones being the obvious choice first. they won't argue about it.
the ones who don't have dependants to take or pick up at school.
the ones who don't have a mortgage or rent to pay.
the ones who live with their parents.
the ones who don't look like they're going to deck you from behind the other side of the desk for telling them they are to be an official slave of the government

That is what they want. they don't care about tackling the real problem of poverty and all that goes with being unemployed.
they just want the figures to go down.

Re: Unemployed trial slave labour.
Er can i have something a little more definitive that most unemployed people are sat at home necking strong lager allday please. I do love how some people on here who get upset at generalisations that relate to their jobs say police doing nothing but spending time catching motorists are so quick to happily lumber another group with a pathetic generalisation. yes there are some people claiming benefit who waste their time but they are a tiny tiny minority and are not indicative of the group as a whole.
I take it all those saying this is a good idea would be happy to have their wages cut to the level of £1.27 an hour i mean if it's good enough for one group in our society then it's good enough for all surely ???. Typical attitude these days scapegoat a group, turn people against them enough and then exploit the hell out of them while getting cheered by the majority till they lose their job and their attitude changes.
This is a lousy scheme and will not help anyone but bosses who will quickly latch onto the fact they can get rid of people or bully them into lower wages on the threat that they will take on a load of people from the jobcentre. One of the biggest problems with unemployment is the loss of feeling worthwhile and that you have nothing to contribute and were going to sort that by having them out for 40 hours a week cleaning toilet bowls yeah this is all about helping the unemployed isn't it .

Re: Unemployed trial slave labour.
Ok time to put my 2 cents in:
I have been out of work since Oct 08, because I was sacked by the company I was working for, I worked there since Feb 08. I have recently come off of the New Deal Scheme and from August to November I was put on a 3 month course, during which time I got a voluntary work placement in Tesco'. Since finishing this work placement, I have found that I still can't get a job, and I think this is due to me not being able to drive and also having a visual impairment. So in short what hope do I have?

Knowing the way things work they will probably put you either with vosa or air traffic control.

is it going to look like a group that were sentenced to do unpaid work as a punishment by the court for a crime?
will they be allowed to talk to each other or members of the passing public?
are they going to be threatened for not pulling their weight during the 40 hour working week?
are they going to avoid putting people in a position where you will be working with somebody that is on full wage for the same job that you're doing?
will we see companies wanting a piece of the action and money being passed in the background?
will we see many redundancies and it will all become the norm eventually?
