Jobseeker's Allowance is taxable, although if you're unemployed for an entire tax year it wouldn't be enough by itself to put you over the threshold of your personal taxfree allowance.

Re: Will we ever get to the truth about Ashcroft's tax status
Labour would lose a fair amount of votes if people were required to be in employment or partner of someone in employment to vote.
PMQs was a joke again today, the Prime Mentalist constantly darting back to Ashcroft to avoid giving straight answers and in between a few planted questions about it.
Clearly a sign of a great leader when they can't manage their own party properly without throwing Nokias at them (Labour MPs calling ex-soldiers complaining about Gordon Brown's funding of the services 'Tories') and answer questions on our soldiers in the field with comments about a Tory peer.
Wonder how many keyboards the cabinet office will be getting in after today's PMQs didn't go too well for GB.

Total joke, question about the armed forces and he manages to shoehorn a dig at Ashcroft. Dave did look genuinely angry at the 'tories' jibe about the armed forces and proceeded to rip GB a new one.

Yes, Brown tries to take the moral high ground with respect to Ashcroft's status, influence etc. yet retains, at the very heart of Government power, the unelected Dark Lord Mandelson, whose track record has already seen him sacked twice! Were it not for the fact that Brown's been well and truly in the mire he'd never be there but 'needs must' eh.... The same old spin and double standards from the party of hypocrites who'll say and anything to avoid responsibility for their actions....
I wonder what shabby deals have been done behind the scenes at No10 in order for Mandelson's 'support' to continue.

Of course that's probably all tabloid stuff and nonsense..

Whats worse, have someone of influence who legally avoids paying the full level of tax they might be due to pay or someone who 'forgets' someone his department was investigating gave him several hundred thousand pounds towards the purchase of a house.

But you're forgetting that what the ruling 'whiter than white' party gets up to doesn't matter to some around here....

Re: Will we ever get to the truth about Ashcroft's tax status
He does pay the full amount of Tax due. The money is earned in Belize and that is where the tax is liable, otherwise he would end up being liable at least twice over on any earnings.
It was Tessa Jowell's husband who was caught money laundering and evading tax. Upon being caught out, he paid the tax, therefore proving that he deliberately evaded paying tax.

Unlikely. He is taxed in the UK, but because he is non-dom, he doesn't pay any tax over income earned abroad that is not remitted. He is unlikely to pay tax in Belize, as his income has already been taxed in the UK (at zero percent, but still taxed).

Re: Will we ever get to the truth about Ashcroft's tax status
Well whatever might be said about Ashcroft at least he didn't wind up a pension fund and stitch his staff up.
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/a...ement-hopes.do
But yeah, let's keep talking about Ashcroft rather than the non-dom Lord is under investigation for claiming 38k in expenses under dubious circumstances and stitched up his staff.
Laughable and hypocritical the way Labour keep banging on about this to try and avoid dealing with the actual issues but just about sums up this government, all politicking and spin and not nearly enough governance, though given the damage they've inflicted on the occasions they have governed that's perhaps for the best.

Indeed, The vast majority of armed forces and ex armed force don't vote Labour because of the disrespect that Labour has for the Armed forces.
How more disrespectful can you be when as a party they are responsible for the deaths of serving soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan because they
Sent them out there on a lie
Sent them out there with a severe lack of equipment and funding.
Additionally they have
Tried to Refuse access for the Gurkha's being allowed to live in this country.
They have shown today just how disrespectful they are to serving soldiers by what they said in the house of commons in front of the people of this country
Labour Mp's are lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut.

Unless of course you want me to treat him as guilty until proved innocent - something you seem very concerned about when it suits you.....
We have a plethora of examples of New Labour lies on a magnitude which truly dwarf anything you claim Ashcroft's done and you've nothing to say about them. Yet you find the time to start a thread about a guy who isn't in power and is accused of telling a few porkies to his mates. You turn a blind eye to the donations and influence of New Labour's non-doms, Mandelson's past and all those well documented examples of their interpretation of being 'whiter than white', yet demand Cameron sack Ashcroft. Now you're again banging on about what Ashcroft's money's been spent on. Has the money been spent illegally then? I dare say all that non-dom funding given to the party which is in power has been spent on keyboards and other office sundries for No.10 and not a penny towards winning the next election...
I note you still can't bring yourself to comment on why it was that Brown decided to drop the changes in the rules re. non-doms. If it'd been a government of a different hue which had done it we'd never have heard the end of it would we. That says it all really - you like asking questions but hate answering them just like Gordon Brown.
We've had 13 years of lies, spin and ineptitude in the heart of government on a grand scale and you're silent about it. You clearly feel we should opt for more of the same at the next election and you've been challenged several times now to start a thread setting out new Labour's success stories and educating us why we should vote for them. We're still all waiting for that.....
If this is the best you can on behalf of a 'government' that's been in power for well over a decade and hasn't done anything wrong it's really not very good. It is, however, typical New Labour methodology refined over the last 13 years during which they've become experts at discrediting those who dare to oppose them in order to draw attention away from their lies, mistakes and abject failure.
Details of the emails between the Brown adviser Damian McBride and the Labour blogger Derek Draper
The sound of New Labour supporters claiming 'foul' when it comes to standards of morality, integrity and decency within parliament really does take the biscuit when it comes to hypocrisy.
|
So, still no acknowledgement of his lies then? You prefer to go off topic and not actually discuss the matter at hand.

I have discussed the matter at hand and really couldn't be clearer in what I wrote. It seems to me your definition of 'proof' and insistance on it is entirely variable according to who's in the dock...
Anyway, how about you answer the questions about the non-dom Lord Paul's donations, Mandelson's influence at the heart of government (which is FAR greater than anything Ashcroft 'enjoys' right now) and Brown dropping the rule non-dom changes?
BTW, how's pointing out your and New Labour's utter hypocrisy when it comes to non-doms and wrongdoing in parliament going off topic?...
