Well they're not allowed to shoot him, so he should get 1 or 2 months prison. probably suspended.

I would hope a life time ban on keeping any animals as well as a hefty fine.
I don’t think that’s too much to ask for the sake of two trained dogs (paid by the tax payer) he killed.

It could turn out that he'll get the ban and a fine, and because that's his line of work anyway, they could be lenient and think he's been punished enough.

I think this is one to wait and see what happens.

Punished enough? If it was up to me he’d be locked in a car with the same tempters. That way he will be more careful not to do it again (given the opportunity!)

Re: Police dogs die in car during heatwave
Is there any point in mentioning that being charged isn't equal to being convicted?
No, probably not.

Also there is probably no point in mentioning that whatever punishment he receives, if he is convicted, should be the same as if he were not a policeman.

If he is found guilty then it can be up to 20k fine + 6 months in jail at the top end of the scale.
Depending on pleas, mitigation etc. and that it was a one-off incident (regardless of the actual consequences) I doubt he would be sent to jail for this.

no..he should be dealt with as a police officer who looks after dogs professionally and showed a gross lack of care for the dogs .In other words ,throw the book at him

I've been discussing this, and there's a good probability that he will have the book thrown at him due to the public outrage if he was seen to get off lightly.
the dogs died as a result of him leaving them in the car. that's how they all die. there's no mitigating circumstances of the dogs didn't suffer because he was a professional person. compared to the dogs who suffered more because the owner lived on a council estate.

the point i'm making Gary is because he is a professional dog handler he should have the book thrown at him ,he should not be treated as a member of the public ignorant of what would happen if they left dogs in a car

I understand what you're saying. the role/job he has as a professional dog handler, he should be the last person to allow this to have happened.
