Before this drifts completely of topic (my fault I know), my advice to any decent person that has a visit from them is to get an independent vet to visit your animal(s) as soon as humanly possible

There is also the issue of having marked Police vehicles sitting outside private property. Maybe not an issue in the sticks where everyone knows each other but in larger towns it sometimes isn't advisable to advertise to all and sundry what you do for a living.

sort of tough on them that but i am sorry but on this one i would say then their choice is get the vans or have less dogs perhaps sharing with other forces
just because money is tight should never be an excuse for not looking after animals you have chosen to have be that privately own or by an organisation

wouldn't argue with that though my vet is the port of call for the RSPCA and i wouldn't say they would in anyway put down an animal which didn't need to be
the other cat i have here i found after some scum bag hit him and didn't stop he had 3 weeks at the vets 5 operations sadly lost one eye and the vets charge to me as i said if no one claims him we will have him was £0 RSPCA PAID £60 towards spaying and initial costs
but if your sure you have done everthing a second opinion is never a bad thing to back up your case

You are quite right.
We really need to throw all this antiquated nonsense like jurisprudence, due process, habeus corpus, courts, judges, juries and this sentimental idea of innocence until proven guilty and any other inconvenient human rights that infringe upon reactionary mob justice.
We need a more 21st century approach. Lets get the details of everyone that gets arrested (if he's been arrested he must be guilty, right?) - or even mentioned in a news article will do - publish it on internet forums and let them decide. They can even decide the punishment. The rope-making and pitch-forking industries will get a major boost in these recessionary times.
How about we wait until someone is convicted of it first before getting too far ahead. Noone has even been arrested yet, let alone charged and convicted.

That kind of puts a dampener on actually using them if you have to ship them across several counties. I suppose you might be able to come to an agreement with the local scrotes not to go out on the rob apart from nights the force has the dog they share.

Why do the Police (or for that matter the Army) not have top of the line body armour, vehicles, radios and equipment in general?
The answer of course is money. There isn't an endless pit of it and priorities and compromises have to be made somewhere.
How often does this happen?
Some will say once is once too many but being realistic would you want every force to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on vehicles that would rarely be used to cover the remote possibility of this happening again?

It'll vary from area to area but in general handlers can have at least two working dogs and still care for retired ones as well.

with those i would say that the police themselves can decide they don't feel safe and take action if they feel strong enough as to the army though i agree that they should have the best they know the risk they decide to join up
the dogs however don't get free choice so we have laws to protect them and there should be no difference in the application of those laws whether its the public or an organisation else it will prove impossible to prosecute anyone for it
so i do say if they cant afford the equipment then they shouldn't have the dogs
personally i think that if they are that short of money that on this if they said they needed sponsorship or charity donations to manage to use them they would easily get that money from the British public ( lol yep they most likely like the dogs more than you and you know i am not anti police )

A Somerset vet received a caution after the death of one of his labradors when the animal was left in a car for six hours on a hot day, it has emerged.

Re: Police dogs die in car during heatwave
i can't understand how he hasn't been prosecuted they say "lack of evidence" ,did they look for any ? and what's the point of giving them any powers if they don't use them .
lets draw a comparison with a copper who breaks the law ,usually he is made an example of because he is supposed to know better and uphold the law
if a vet causes death to an animal through negligence then surely he should be made an example of

Re: Police dogs die in car during heatwave
What happened and what can be proved in court are two very different things.

how hard can it be to prove that he left his dog in a car without adequate water or ventilation for six hours ,i mean come on ,what happened did he forget or was he abducted by aliens
i'll say it again there is no excuse short of death for this
