Fined £50 for dropping £10

Quote:
Arthritis sufferer Stewart Smith had just left a charity shop when he was called back by two policemen, who pointed to the note and a till receipt lying on the pavement.

The cops informed Stewart he had committed an offence and gave him a £50 fixed-penalty notice for littering.

Police in Ayr operate a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to littering. Stewart has been told that unless he pays up, he could face further action.
I wouldn't pay the fine and go to court to show you have to be an idiot to throw a £10 note away.

Oh dear this is daft its obviously just either fell out of his pocket or he missed it. His reciept was there to s I spose they could argue he was throwing that away and the tenner was a mistake but still its a bit tight

Re: Fined £50 for dropping £10

Hmmmm I think that what Zing is getting at is more likely here. Guy could of thrown his reciept away and not realised there was £10 as well. Otherwise thats got to be one of the silliest things I've ever heard. The police surley must of seen him throw it rather than seeing it drop by accident.

I'd take it to court to make the Police look like fools.

I am more surprised that we have two honest coppers who called him back instead of pocketing the money and splitting it later

They'll take the £50, and then the £10 as evidence...

Re: Fined £50 for dropping £10

If he did just drop it accidently, surely the appropriate action would have been to ask him to pick it up and put it in a litter bin.

However, I think there may be more to this story than has been reported in the Daily Hate by Smalldick - this is from the local paper

"“I really thought the police were trying to be helpful, but maybe I just have the kind of face they don’t like.”
He insists he didn’t swear at the police or deliberately litter."

Utter balls. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/...pping-a-tenner

Quote:
A force spokeswoman said: “An individual was seen throwing papers on the street. When he was approached and spoken to about it, he recovered the money he had thrown away but repeated his actions with the papers. He was therefore ticketed.”
So assuming you don't immediately think all cops are lazy, racist, evil, stupid, corrupt, fat bullies you might think that once he picked up the money and papers and thought the cops weren't looking he proceeded to chuck away the receipts and then got the £50 happy note.

Re: Fined £50 for dropping £10

This is obviously a complete load of rubbish and the dailydream is not as usual reporting all the facts merely pandering to a certain section of it's readership ready to believe the silliest stories they can publish.

Re: Fined £50 for dropping £10

The ticket he was issued at the time said that he dropped a 'price ticket' - it mentions nothing about a receipt or the £10 note. I'm guessing there's more to this than the papers are reporting - shocker.....

Still I'm sure the money he has received for the story more than covers the fine.

As I thought earlier. Thank's Derek. The story was just to out there to be true.

Re: Fined £50 for dropping £10

Whats going to happen next?

Your gonna get knifed in the street, its seen by 2 coppers\PCSO's and they will be over with a fixed penalty notice for bleeding on to the pavement whilst the knife wealding criminal saunters on his merry way

The content of this post was thought of by my wife and posted by myself (good netiquette re: maggyj's request)
