yes, they are - she did those whilst studying for her diploma a few years ago, but this is different. she'd know better than me being it's her job! even she is surprised how much this has been pushed on the health service these last few weeks.

Yeah ok you dont panic. Go about your usual business. Dear o dear. If someone had a gun to your head i think you would still be optimistic. The problem is that optimism will get you into trouble.

And the problem when people cry "Wolf" all the time is that it desensitises others to what may be valid alarm calls.

So, what do you suggest we do? Panic? If we did that, we would only make the possible outcome of this flu worse.

You dont have to panic, but dont play things down when we can clearly see there is a serious and possibly, catastrophic problem ahead. People should be asking their government what they are doing to prevent this reaching the UK? Why are they not stopping flights to and from Mexico?

Re: Pandemic Flu - This one could be for real......
Well, I am worried - I woke up this morning feel woozy, dehydrated, aching all over, headache, dry mouth and throat.
Then I realised - it might have been the 2 pints of Leffe, the 2 large glasses of Shiraz, the Irish Coffee, and the very large single malt I had last night.
But no, since I have the symptoms, I best go down to A&E with all the others who have similar symptoms, as best to be safe than sorry.
re the "optimism getting us in trouble" - I would rather be optimistic and be occasionally let down, than be perpetually pessimistic and think the worse, going through life being miserable (imho).

This is interesting. They knew Avian Flu had started to operate in pigs on April 4th .

Optimism allows us to continue our lives without living in constant fear that we are about to be stuck by tragedy. No one is saying we should be unaware of this virus but panicking will help no one and probably led to more problems.
There is a virus, it appears to be a lot milder the further to gets from Mexico. So let's presume it's probably going to be ok.
