Re: british jobs for british workers.
It always makes me laugh when you hear of an 'employer' whining about, how would they survive if they increased the working wage, you put the price of the goods up.
Its like Tesco's etc, they but everything in bulk and therefore it is cheaper, and they but goods from 'sweat shops' which pays the staff silly wages and get away with it.
The British worker has been trodden on for years, by employers, and now they are laughing all the way to the bank, as they know that they will get some worker to do it below the minimum wage.

Re: british jobs for british workers.
Yes, Arthur, that's right, every employer has the economies of scale of Tesco....
btw, I am a supporter of the minimum wage (and not as a maximum, either).

Re: british jobs for british workers.
Here is a typical point, my son used to work for Tesco, and his take home pay for the month was £800.00 take home and that was for SIX days per week and working 9 hours per day.

how old was he Arthur and what was his hourly rate ?
It's no good keep having a go at the employers it's not their fault we want cheap goods all the time .It's joe public that keeps pushing the price down forcing supermarkets to pay less for their produce.
I work on a Decent Homes site at the moment and the amount of whining from the all british workforce is unbelievable the most important thing on the whole site is the next tea break .It has to be said that it is mostly young people 30 or under that do the whining they seem to have the attitude that all they have do is turn up for work and that justifies a wage,no real work ethic at all compared to the polish workers we had on site last year ,i do take the point of health and safety with foriegn workers and it is true they do flout the rules and can be real a danger to other workers sometimes

So rather than have the burden spread thinly over everyone, you'd prefer businesses to foot the bill, resulting in more unemployment (oh hang on, that'd be higher taxes too to pay for it), and higher prices for everyone.

Re: british jobs for british workers.
We have two choices here.
If we want to see greater use of UK employees, we need to accept that we will have to pay higher prices.
If we want to continue to have the current low prices, we need to accept that companies are going to have to look to cheaper countries for their employees.

Or people are going to have to accept lower life expectations, without Sky TV, games consoles, dyson vacuum cleaners, annual holidays, boozy weekends, cigarettes, mp3 players, just as low paid immigrants are doing and generations before us did.

You remind me of the chavs who say they can't afford to feed their kids (while smoking pot and drinking booze as they watch Sky movies - we have plenty of them around here).
Most of the meals my gf and I cook cost £0.70 to £1.50 each, using decent products, quite often from the "finest" type range.

then please justify calling all the other hard working people chavs just because they want to spend a bit of their hard earned on a few luxuries
i really don't see what your problem is unless your that confused that you think hard work =chav
oh and by the way my kids are well fed ,i don't watch sky news and i don't smoke pot so calm it down with the personal insults just because i dared to disagree with the great xaccers

another choice is that the costs could be in the middle and companies need to learn that it is not necessary to continually make bigger profits every year that way they may persuade workerds they dont need to continually get bigger and bigger wage rises
but with companies boasting of huge profits / rises in share price ( yep i know they are not the same see BA at the moment lol ) its hardly surprising those working for them want a part of it

and with rises in share prices comes further investment which helps with future proofing and developing the company to the benefit of those who work for it.
Employ 100 people making widgets, make a tidy profit, increase share price and attractiveness, obtain investment, build a second factory, employ 100 more workers.
Make more profit, hit economic slump, use profits to reduce the number of redundencies required.
Tsk, those nasty profit making companies eh?
