You really are not making any sense.
Escapee was bemoaning graduates for thinking they're overskilled for their jobs because they've got degrees.
Bizarrely you brought in their education in the 90's, ignoring the 20somethings which Escapee was talking about.
I asked you when you thought these 30somethings graduated given that they are still being refered to as graduates (which to most people means they're in their first job after uni).
Now you're asking how I expect them to get experience if they're not employed by companies where they can get the experience.
Well, as Escapee said, they are employed, he works with them, and the graduates are the ones who don't think they need the experience.
So what exactly are you talking about?

Re: british jobs for british workers.

I am glad l came across this page, as l have very strong feelings on this subject, l recently read an article concerning the Bernard Matthews factory, where they only wanted POLISH workers to fill the positions which they had available, And the agency that was working on behalf of the main company stated that they mis worded the add, total crap.

ALL these major companies want is cheap labour, and when l say cheap, l mean cheap.

This government is a disgrace to allow this to go on, they claim that it improves the ecomony of this country, total whitewash, when these immagrants come into this country, the first thing they do is queue up for vacancies that is not worth queueing up for, and they will get it.

I went for a job three years ago, and l still remember the disgrace of the employer as l complained to the JC, the job was paying £15.000 and a guy who went there, told the employer in front of us, he would do the job for less money, and he got it on the spot.

And how much worse do you think it would be under a different government? If the Tories have their way, they would abolish the minimum wage and we we getting workers paid two or three pounds an hour, all quite legally.

I must have been missing where the Tories mentioned wanting to abolish the minimum wage.

I see plenty of blog posts and opinion pieces about how the Tories want to force the country into poverty in order to make the wealthy wealthier but nothing from the Tories themselves oddly.

Would you mind giving some citation here please?

Strange - in the last election, Oliver Letwin (then Shadow Chancellor) stated that they would have implemented the proposed increase to £5.35 if elected; must be a new definition of "abolish" I hadn't come across before.......

And wasn't it BoJo, as Mayor of London, who brought in the "living wage" proposal, not his predecessor, KenLiv?

But that is from Christopher Chope, and being supported by the right-wing loonie brigage of Edward Leigh, Bill Cash, et al, who hark back to the days of She Who Must Be Obeyed; if I find a loonie-left backbenchers motion, will that mean that GB et al will be tarred with that?

Well I guess you must have been off sick that day then.

Take a look at the most mis-aptly named Employment Opportunities Bill, sponsored by Christopher Chope, Peter Bone, Philip Davies, Nigel Evans, Greg Knight, Edward Leigh, Ian Liddell-Grainger, Brian Binley, William Cash, Robert Syms and David Wilshire and supported by others such Nicholas Winterton.

One of them, Peter Bone actually boasted, during a Tory party conference, that he paid workers as little as eighty-seven pence an hour.

So, does that mean that Tories are NOT trying to abolish the minimum wage then?

Well yes, actually, it does. A private members' bill sponsored by 11 fellow back benchers is exactly what it says on the tin.

That's what I thought you were talking about.

I don't see anything directly in there about abolishing it, moreover I don't see any support from the parliamentary Tory party as a whole.

So let's try again.

Where have the Tory party as a whole mentioned wanting to abolish the minimum wage?

It's not looking too hot for you given that the Tory leader said:

Quote:
Cameron said in 2005 that the minimum wage "turned out much better than many people expected, including the CBI".
And Boris John was in favour of replacing it with a 'living wage' of 7.40 in London.

You've been watching the GOP guide to politics methinks

Re: british jobs for british workers.

I do agree with you on this. British jobs should be for the brit worker. That is unless of course a person has been born to foreign parents in this country and naturalised here. A person born here has every right to work here

Re: british jobs for british workers.

I think alot of the problem comes down to the govenment and there stupid Tax credits and minimum wage system,
if employers where made to pay a proper wage in the first place (in line with inflation) over the last 20 years there would be alot less people now requiring this so called tax credits, most employers now for standard jobs will only pay around the national minimum wage as they know the govenment will top it up with tax credits for alot of people, of course this fails when you have single people or people without children in those jobs they lose out, so the govenment has made the company's richer and again the people poorer.
and if that sounds a mess thank the govenment

Re: british jobs for british workers.

So lets run through a thought experiment shall we?
I run a business making life improving widgets, wages make up the largest proportion of my costs. I employ 100 people on the production line working 40 hours a week for minimum wage (£5.80/h)
The government hikes up the minimum wage to what? 20K? (median annual earnings)

My wage bill (excluding employers NI contributions) has gone up by nearly £800K

How do you propose I find the money to cover the increase?
Sack half the work force perhaps and bring in automation? Yum! Mass unemployment is always good isn't it?
Double the retail price of widgets maybe? But hang on, that would be hyperinflation, so ultimately those on minimum wage would be no better off, items would still cost the same proportion of their wages. Those over minimum wage would be much worse off meaning they have less money to spread around, stagnating the economy, perhaps causing it to collapse.

Re: british jobs for british workers.

Whatever government is running, this lark regarding allowing cheap labour will continue, you only have to look at the Olympic village in London, the builders on there are mostly foriegn imports, as it is cheaper to operate.

I watched a prog the other day from a London building site, where the foreman said that ' the worst thing about foriegn builders is the lack of health and safety, we have been warned, are you listening Cameron and Brown.
