I don't think there's any such thing as a 'good' kebab ...

But they seem to be one of the most popular shops on the high-street.

Indeed. I'm partial to one myself, any time when I'm unlikely to be anywhere near my wife for some considerable time afterwards.
However, there is a world of difference between 'tasty' and 'good'. Some of the most poisonous mushrooms on the planet are 'tasty'.

Mmmm. I have the same issue with dry-roasted peanuts which unfortunately I adore.
Even more unfortunately they turn me into a sort of human hovercraft..

I beg to differ...
Used to live in Rusholme (Manchester) and loved nothing better than a couple of nice and spicy skewers of Seek kebabs on a freshly baked naan with fresh salad, chilli onions, green peppers, with mint/chili yogurt and mango chutney... for less than £3
I really nice balanced meal on an eatable plate
Where as here down south it's all tasteless donner on a tiny little pitta bread with a chili tomatoe sauce and limp lettuce for double the price

i can relate to that , have travelled down to the curry mile in Rushholme on more than one occasion and its fresh , top produce , a lot of these places called kebab houses should be shut down , i have to be absolutely wasted to eat donner meat or chicken meat from these so called kebab houses, its like eating grit.
