Personal Carbon Credits ?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7419724.stm

Hmmmm.... won't this just create another 'market' in which the rich can buy what they want and pollute accordingly? So what's going to happen to those poor folk who sell their credits in desperation and then can't heat their homes in winter? Are they going to be given additional credits by the state or allowed to freeze? Unless this is done globally won't those who don't like it and can afford to leave the UK just pack up and go somewhere else? Wouldn't this have a disproportionate effect on those who live in rural areas and have to travel long distances to work?

Oh and I feel another handy exemption for MP's coming on....

Oh yes I can forsee problems along the lines you have suggested...but in some respects I can understand what the government are trying to do. Like Hilary Benn I think it just needs a little more thought and planning. And no exemptions...except for terminal illness.

Re: Personal Carbon Credits ?

I am already covered as i bought 4 acres of rainforest way back in the early nineties my one foray into the charity thing who'd have guessed it would pay off for me now. Granted i have lost my certificate and wouldn't exactly recognise it on a map but it has to cover me for most of my carbon emissions so does that make me one of the greener members (enviromentally meaning not medically ) on the forum and if so i want a badge.

Re: Personal Carbon Credits ?

Another barmy idea from some highly paid "committee", no doubt designed to fleece as much money from us as possible with no actual benefits to the vast majority ( and all for a mere 2 billion a year out of our taxes )
