Abu Qatada, pictured in 2000, has been convicted in Jordan
Radical cleric Abu Qatada has been variously described as a "truly dangerous individual" and a "key UK figure" in al-Qaeda related terror activity.

His been in since 2001, described as Bin Ladens right-hand man in Europe, a title he is happy to revell in.
http://www.caledonian-comment.com/20...-on-their.html
Just reading the above link from Enuff it says he has always denied even knowing Bin Laden, rubbish he has been taped openly boasting about being Al Qaeda's European connection, he was caught out by a reporter from the UAE.

Re: Abu quatada freed!!!
He came here in 1993 on a forged UAE passport claiming asylum on the grounds of religious persecution - from that most Islamaphobic of countries, Jordan. Only us would be mug enough to actually believe him.

Re: Abu quatada freed!!!
Yet another example of the mess this country is now in. We take people like this in (or they just come here illegally) they seriously abuse the laws of this country and then we can't get rid of them because they might be at risk

Re: Abu quatada freed!!!
The law doesn't seem to be interested in dangerous criminals like him, they're more interested in catching mostly decent people who drive a few miles over the speed limit.

Re: Abu quatada freed!!!
If the law weren't interested in catching him, how did he end up in prison? Walked in one day?
Quote:
Abu Qatada became one of the UK's most wanted men in December 2001 when he went on the run on the eve of government moves to introduce new anti-terror laws allowing suspects to be detained without charge or trial.
In October 2002 the authorities tracked him down to a council house in south London and took him to Belmarsh Prison.
He was eventually freed on bail in March 2005, but was made subject of a control order to limit his movements.
In August that year he was taken back into custody pending the extradition to Jordan.

The 44-year-old is reported to have had links to the "shoe bomber", Richard Reid, as well as Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called "twentieth hijacker" in the September 11th plot.
Qatada was arrested in 2001 by anti-terrorism officers, seven years after arriving in the country on a false United Arab Emirates passport, but released without charge.
Described by a Spanish judge as "Osama bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe" and by the British authorities as "truly dangerous individual", he was arrested with £170,000 cash in his possession, including £805 in an envelope marked "For the mujahedin in Chechnya".
|
This "truly dangerous individual" has been granted bail.
