Re: Opec warns oil could reach $200

Well all i know is, every few weeks i look at certain Garages when driving to and from work, and the prices have risen at least 2 Pence. This is getting beyond a joke now, we all know Oil ect will not last forever but this isn't the case at the moment.

Trouble is the last 50 Years we have become dependent on the car and our whole likes are governed by it, so this might put a smile on the Greeny faces out there but unfortunately this is going to have far reaching conequences for all of us.

Re: Opec warns oil could reach $200

Yes and who always loses out - we do, because the oil companies just pass the burden on to the final users - us. What really rattles me is that our government (apart from bleeding the British public dry in petrol taxes) just sits by and allows the oil companies to do whatever they like (never mind the fact that it is close to crippling the country's whole infrastructure), whilst those same companies announce billions in profits - all funded by us.

I'd like to know how it is that the oil cartels (OPEC) can charge $200 per barrel and yet the prices for fuel vary tremendously all over the world, e.g. here we are paying £1:00+ per litre and in Saudi Arabia (part of OPEC) the average price is around 4 pence per litre? All that OPEC need to do to bring the price down, is to increase the rate of production which they obviously refusing to do.

So we now have the scenario where the oil companies are blatantly boasting about their profits, coupled with the recent strike at a Scottish refinery which brought massive flocks of (panic buying) sheep to forecourts all over the country.

No wonder their having a laugh and - at our expense.

Re: Opec warns oil could reach $200

It's a nightmare this. There was a link on the Yahoo main page yesterday that showed the fuel prices World Wide and the UK is fourth on the list. What amazed me (did it really amaze me) the most is that all the countries that exist in the "So Called" unstable Middle East all had really cheap petrol, and I mean REALLY cheap. So that can only mean two thing (I think). They have control of it all, and that is why we are always down there fighting wars nobody seems to want with excuses of needing to remove dictators and WMD or they are using the whole "Unstable Middle East" to just rip us off on fuel.

I have no idea if I am even close, but the fuel situation is a major issue. I am spending the best part of £70 a month on fuel to get to my job, it is going up faster than my wage does!

It would cost me more to catch a Bus (would need two) or train (would need Bus and Train) it is a real concern. I am being backed into a corner where I have two ways out, keep paying it or resign.

http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...e-archive.html - this shows how much it has gone up in the UK by region and average.

In Russia they reckon that due to the oil and gas exports the population is becoming more and more wealthy, current estimates are that 20% of Russians are now middle class and the government is aiming to increase that to 60 or 70% by 2020.
Perhaps they just have politicians who care for their own people.

You may not have a choice in the matter, with borrowing becoming harder and ALL prices leaping up people are going to have to cut back and that will bring lay-off's.

In this area we had the decline in cotton spinning, cotton mills used to employ 40% of the local population plus there were all the engineering companies who serviced the mills.
Even though there was a rapid decline other jobs seemed to appear as if by magic, I guess there is always someone who will step in when they see a load of available cheap labour and take advantage of the situation.

Re: Opec warns oil could reach $200

Look it's all OK - Gordon has said so!

Despite a distinct but entirely unfair, media inspired impression to the contrary, he now really feels our hurt and that can mean only one thing. I mean what self respecting and caring PM would preside over an unprecedented rise in fuel prices and do nothing significant to help all those businesses, families etc. who are really struggling to cope? No, I really think we can now expect prompt and decisive action to reduce the amount of tax HMG levies on fuel to stimulate the ailing economy and lessen the burden on those families he's worked so hard to assist throughout his years as Chancellor and now PM. Yes, we are surely about to see the very best of Gordon - a man who'll stop at nothing to ensure fair play and protect the vulnerable. A man who truly knows what it's like to be unable to pay the bills and provide for the family. A man, nay, a global leader who's on the verge of fulfilling his promise to eradicate poverty..... A man whose commitment to making Britain a leading industrial nation is second only to his determination to create a fair, just and safe society in which we can all prosper and share a common identity.... A nation in which the vulnerable and needy have rights and are protected by the state... A nation in which crime never pays and punishment always fits the crime.... A nation truly fit for heroes.............

Yeah right !

I knew it would all go pear shaped when New Labour decided to continue with the Tory policies.

Re: Opec warns oil could reach $200

They didn't need Tory or anyone else's policies to turn everything pear shaped - their own 'policies' were quite sufficient to ensure that. Brown's record on public spending has hardly been Tory has it!

Re: Opec warns oil could reach $200

It’s like I have always said, waste of time Labour pumping money into London and the South East in the hope of gaining votes.
Now Labour find themselves in the position of gaining no votes in the South and at the same time being rejected by the Labour Heartland, hopefully the lesson has been learned before it is too late and they will divert the money to more deserving areas of the country in time for the next General Election.

By the way, just been in the local supermarket and green label milk cartons have just gone up another 20%, so it looks like all milk is about to rise in price again. Last week bread went up again just over 25%, this could be the thin end of the wedge, which reminds me, have you seen the price of cheese these days.
