He might be in the Police, but I have to say he is wrong on the speed issue. You can and sometimes will be done for going over the limit by 1mph. The speed limit is a law we have to abide by, the guidelines that state 35mph are just guidelines and do not have to be followed.

Doesnt make it right, or fair though.
Sometimes its impossible to be exactly on the 30 mark...everyone goes over/under, unless your a perfect human then its gonna happen.
Quite ironic really, go 1 mile over the 30 limit and get a fine and 3 points, go under the speed limit and end up annoying all the other drivers behind you and may still get a tellin off from the police for going too slow (known this to happen...ppl doing 25 in a 30 zone...)
I have no respect for the police what so ever, i only ever see them catching people speeding, never bother stopping real crime though...

Course they never bother stoping 'real crime', thats why the prisons are full of rapists, murderers and what not, they got there because I put them there, all by myself.

Re: The law is an horse!
The guidelines are there to make it easier to successfully prosecute the motorist. It is pretty much impossible to know that if your analogue speedo needle points on 30 that you are doing exactly that speed. You can assume that is the case and drive at the speed but when you pass the camera you may be doing 31 and thus get a ticket. You can then appeal to the courts on the grounds that you could reasonable assumed that you were driving at a safe speed. It's possible that the police/CPS will just write the ticket off anyway because its not worth the hassle of chasing it up.
However if they follow the guidelines, 35 in a 30 zone is blatant. There is no way that the speedo needle isn't obviously over the 30 mark and hence the successful prosecution.
As I've said before speed cameras are just in it for the money. If the government were serious about sorting out bad and criminal drivers the you would see more traffic cops out there pulling people over for tail gating, cutting up, speeding etc. On the other hand, you have to pay traffic cops. With speed cameras you only have to pay some bloke to go around and change the film.

Except they aren't full of rapists and murderers, why do you think there is over crowding, don't you think it might have some thing to do with the hundreds of new crimes our glorious regime has thought up, it's quite simple really, stop jailing people for petty offences until you have built more prisons and you won't have murderers walking out of open prisons a quarter of the way through their sentence killing again

Legally (I think) a speedo is not allowed to tell you that you are doing 30mph when you are doing 31mph+, they set it so that say you are doing 30mph, your real speed would be 27mph.

But if I go out speeding 36mph, I wont be going to prison, that was the whole point here.

Re: The law is an horse!
If I remember correctly the highway code states your speedometer must be accurate to + or - 10% to be legal.
I have also noticed when I approach those "your speed" devices near schools or accident black spots, they always show my speed to be some 2 to 4 mph lower than my speedo reading. As does the speed reading on my Tom Tom sat nav.
