Now - please forgive my ignorance on the subject, but what does the mayor actually do?
Does he have control over the London City of London / Greater London budget and will he get to wear a nice gold chain! LOL!

Depends, Livingston introduced the Oyster Cards, The New Buses, The "buy a ticket before you get on the Bus" scheme, Congestion Charge, Started Crossrail, and was always good at getting money from Whitehall to fund his projects such as Crossrail and the investment for the Underground/East-End/New Stadium he secured after winning the Olympics.
In other Words, The Major can do quite a lot.
A design of the Bus Boris wants to introduce: http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl...7774/img/1.jpg

Oh dear... I feel quite sorry for the people of London.
Still, at least it should be an amusing four years.

Don't feel sorry for me as I (and most people I know) am breathing a sigh of relief having had to put up with an obnoxious dictatorial slimeball for 8 years. The prospect of another 4 years of cronyism really didn't bear thinking about.

Those charges of cronyism were overblown IMO. The problem was not so much the allegations which were weak and not exactly over the top but how he reacted to them (not apologizing etc).
I think Transport for London was improved so much, The Oyster Card, The flat rate Buses, Buying the Tickets before you get on, Better bus times and more buses.
Not to mention Crossrail.
Ken Livingstone was not perfect by any means but I don't see why that means he needs to be removed in favor of someone with no experience and who seems to have been put forward because he was a funny guy.

Hasn't Borris taken part in the Big Brother House or Jungle yet? I'd like to see him Dancing on Ice.

Well the proof of the eating is in the pudding.Let's see whether he makes a custard pie of it or actually turns out a nice trifle.
I personally think the poor chap's disease of footinmouthitus will make his tenure somewhat tricky but he should be at least given a chance before being condemned totally.

There was plenty of cronyism before City Hall Damien - at the GLC and in Lambeth for example. All a bit before your time though....

I remember those days, I used to go to collage in London on day release for my apprenticeship, and I specifically remember Ken dropping the fares on the tube to a 20p go anywhere rate. As regards his last 8 years I think Ken was a overall success due to the fact he put Londoner's first, not the Labour party, a lesson Boris should follow if the Tories ever come to power.

Oh yes, something for Londoner's and the UK to be "proud" of, a BNP councillor.

It is a great victory because he won! And, quoting Simon Darby: "We've witnessed the first major politician elected not for telling lies but for telling the truth." That makes this win historic! Well done BNP!
