Escort for Heroes, sign the No.10 petition

Gent's,Please,PLEASE sign.
Spike

Quote:
airborne_artist wrote; You may have seen the press coverage of hearses stuck in traffic, carrying the bodies of those KIA, and noticed how badly this compared with the reception in Canada and other NATO countries for similar casualties.

Sign the No 10 petition, and perhaps people will take notice.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/escortforheroes/

The wording of the petition is:

"The bodies of British servicemen and women killed overseas are flown to RAF Lyneham.

The hearses carrying the bodies receive no special escort once they leave the county of Wiltshire, normally bound for the mortuary at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

It is an insult to these brave people and their families that their hearses should travel un-escorted on their journey through the country that these men and women served and died for.

The signatories to this petition request that the Ministry of Defence, in co-ordination with local Chief Constables, arrange for a formal escort for the bodies of all those Servicemen and women, unless the next-of-kin request otherwise."

Re: Escort for Heroes, sign the No.10 petition

This is outrageoues, I would think most people, myself included thought the hearses would be escorted to there final destination, these brave men and women have given their young lives for this country, and this is how we repay them.

Re: Escort for Heroes, sign the No.10 petition

I'm sorry but were is the extra money for this going to come from? Will you be happy for your council tax to go up because of the police escorts required?

I don't understand the need to be escorted anyway? Surely they are escorted by the hearse driver - yeah?

Obviously those men and women who die in the service of our country deserve better than they are given. If it wasnt for these brave people what state would the world be in now and what does it matter where the money comes from as long as they are treated with dignity in death.

Poor post on your part Handyman...

Missed the point there a bit about the hearses haven't you? It's the hearses that should be getting the escort. And the money could come from the vast amount of cash they make from all the speed cameras...

I would be more than happy to pay extra if I knew it was going to to this cause, and what are we talking about spread over tens if thousands of households, peanuts.

Well said Spike, my god its not much to ask of a nation you have given your life for. Handyman you should be ashamed, some things you do not put a price on, and this certainly falls into that category.

Re: Escort for Heroes, sign the No.10 petition

<--- puts on flame proof suit
so okay I kinda agree with what Handyman is saying.

If the hearse was escorted all the way to the cemetary or as it is to the hospital more then likely the councils that the hearse will travel through will put the bill to the MOD which in another way means less dosh for the MOD.

there is no way that the MOD will pay for it nor the councils.

Personally I don't care if its the councils or the MOD who pay this paltry amount, someone should, its the least we can do for the KIA and their family's.
