Re: Caring mum found dead
Well all that I hope is that something good comes out of this tragedy. Government services for carers are scandalously poor probably because these are people who have no real choice, being torn between the love and loyalty they have for their loved ones and their own emotional, social and financial needs which have to be sacrificed to a greater or lesser extent. These people can't go on strike, they don't come from easily identifiable minority groups, they just get on and do what has to be done rather than simply walking away and placing the entire burden on the state. Carers come in both sexes and all shapes, ages, sizes and colours. What they have in common is an immense desire to do right by their loved ones and what they need more than anything else is centrally funded help and support to this end. Let's hope this is forthcoming sooner rather than later!

Re: Caring mum found dead
This is a very sad story, and l cannot believe all the stories that are flying about, about with what happened, caring for a disabled child, is one of the hardest jobs going, my son is disabled, and my wife goes to bed each night, shattered. There, was a story in a Sunday paper, that a male, was seen walking away with the lads, wheelchair, and the police are trying to trace him, all l would say, is that instead of 'assuming' what happened, the only person who can say, what really happened, is Heather and she is now deceased, and it is also sad, when they are saying it was her, and this is really cruel on her family, as she was a devoted mum, too him. RIP James.

Well I'm sure the truth will come out sooner or later - but to be honest I think we're almost there now.

Well we don't know the full facts yet but people do the strangest things when subject to extreme and prolonged stress as she undoubtedly was. If this is true, she'll have been under the most enormous emotional pressure, being torn between the 24/7 needs of her son, her own needs and those of the other family members. Anyone who cares for a severely disabled person will understand the intolerable pressure which accompanies that responsibility and, as with all things, some cope with it far better than others.
