I see his solicitor has a unique view on things.

Yeah he sounds like a great bloke. Still with all these offences he'll be making his lawyers a huge amount of money from legal aid (i'd imagine) so they'll need to keep him sweet.

Re: Tell me that the law isn't an ass
So it took him 51 offenses without a driving license to get jailed? Cool, I might as well go and buy a cheap a cheap car to get the hang of it before I start my lessons... I mean I'll be learning before my 51st offense...

Re: Tell me that the law isn't an ass
As said above by Derek, what a lovely bloke, I'm sure his family are proud of him!. Eight months in jail and a five year ban, is that all!! This moron should be banned for life, I mean 51 convictions, the law is an ass.

if you were in the middle of the ocean rowing towards salvation but he was rowing backwards you'd push him over the side.

Re: Tell me that the law isn't an ass
Bah, the law is clearly an ass in this case! I suppose that because each individual conviction was never quite severe enough to merit jail time (given the current political pressure and prison overcrowding) he was able to keep getting away with it. More prisons, please!

Couldn't agree more, the way things are though that island would fill up awfully quickly.

Maybe somewhere like Rockall then, he couldn't drive there.

I'll be astounded if this is the first time he's been inside for driving whilst disqualified. Normally the courts look on it in the same way as contempt of court and after being caught a couple of times you are looking at a spell inside.
He might be playing the "I'm mental and can't help myself" card to try and avoid being locked up.
Still some people wouldn't like to see him locked up as he's not a violent offender (well not any more allegedly) and he should be given community based punishments instead. I think in this case it's an example of someone who clearly hasn't paid any attention to previous convictions and locking him up is the only way to avoid him driving.
