Unfortunately the biggest group of "moochers" "ripping the a*** out of" anything are the MPs who seem to be hell bent on completely destroying this country. At least the Royal Family help to bring tourist money into the country even if they do seem to reside in their own little world at time.

Re: Is William an embarrassment?
The UK is overpopulated. The only "un-build" place that he could possibly land was his girlfriend's back garden.
I hear, Mahiki is planning to pay 150,000 quid (+ free drinks) for a Royal Chinook landing on its roof, with Prince Prat, his girlfriend: "Doors to manual" , Harry Hewitt & Chelsy popping in to get plastered. Which is reasonable considering that Paris Hilton was paid 70K, to do the same, see link.

Threads merged. We had two threads effectively discussing the same thing running simultaneously.

The latest 'event' may be a big story a little story or a non-story but it's not exactly the only example of royals possibly extracting the Michael or acting rather tactlessly/stupidly is it? Hence my question:-
"...are William and Harry an embarrassment to the Queen or just young men doing what young men do best?"
I tend to think a bit of both to be honest.

Of course if you were truly being neutral you would link to stories of the royals working to ensure that charities were supported and publicised and that the majority are working hard at their public duties.
I frankly don't give a toss what Prince William or Prince Harry do in their off time provided they fulfil their public duties at the correct time.
No what you prefer to do is pick on one case that apparently proves your point.
BTW the two lads are quite busy today.

You seem to be missing the point that on balance I'm fairly neutral - I don't hate the royals and do think the younger ones have simply been doing the sort of thing that many young people would do given the chance. That doesn't make it any the less silly though and nor does it mean that nothing they do is brave, worthwhile or positive. For the purposes of an interesting debate in a forum I simply posed a question based on a current situation which was in the news.
We're certainly able to have a debate on all the good works the royals do/don't do and since you're so wound up about it all I invite you to start one so you can see what my contribution is, hopefully then you'll be able to judge what I write rather than what you think I mean.

Exactly, while he got off another trainee pilot flew the whirlybird back to the mainland and got some more hours flying experience.
This is such a non story.
Should I be complaining that the NASA shuttle pilots get to use a fleet of their own personal fast jets for training and keeping their hours and landing practice up. These guys often live in Houston, TX and work at the Cape, FL and fly between the two regularly.

1000 hours of fast jet experience usually in T38s

Well the way you worded it has got the usual grouping of people who will just use the thread to bash the royals. Now if you had come at it from the other angle of what useful activities the young royals get up to I would have perhaps been less inclined to point out what a non story it was(and still is).The subject heading is hardly neutral is it?It certainly gives a biased feel to the thread.

I'm sorry but whilst starting a thread called "in praise of all the useful activites the royals get up to in their spare time" might be very nice and even valid, it wouldn't indicate a much of a neutral viewpoint either would it.

With your obvious intelligence I''m sure you could have come up with an even handed heading that was neutral enough to instigate a good debate from both sides. But it's water under the bridge now.

Well I could but I decided to leave that pleasure to you - and we're still all waiting BTW.

But you are so interested in the doings of the royals,I'm not.
I'm merely interested in an even handed debate whom ever it is about..
