I still don't think that prison is the place to put drug users - as for the record company the publicity is proverbial ???

He has spent more time in courts, than l have hot dinners, he has made the laws of this country a laughing stock, he constantly gets arrested for using hard drugs, he has not learn't anything, he has had so many chances, l have lost count, l would retract anything, l have said, if he turned to the press and said, that is it, l will show my fans, that l will change, but will he.

imo, no, he won't - but I still question whether a prison sentence is the correct way to deal with that??

But he wasn't put in jail for being an addict was he? He was put in jail for failing to turn up at hearings/contempt for justice. That, imo is worthy of time inside given sufficient 'offences'

respect for your opinion, Dan, but I don't think such 'offences' are due a prison sentence, given the reported overcrowding ??

Re: Pete Doherty Jailed
My god I haven't a lot of time for the guy, but are people for real calling for a five year sentence!, what good is that going to do? prison is certainly not the place for drug addicts. I know it seems infuriating to see him constantly turn up late for court but this is certainly exacerbated by certain newspapers stirring up the public mood, do people honestly think he is enjoying his life at present? the guy is ill just because it is self inflicted it doesn't make the illness any less real. I wonder if people would have felt the same way about George Best who's addiction to alcohol was as chronic as this guys addiction to heroin, just because society says one is legal and the other isn't doesn't make the hell he is going through any less. I hope nobody here would have to go through this nightmare with a family member, because if they did it might make them a little more understanding.

And may also go some way to slowing the rapid decline of the British music industry

Re: Pete Doherty Jailed
Let's put it this way, there are places people can go, who are suffering from mis-use of drugs, and some do not deserve to go to prison, as it is well known that if you are in prison, gurranteed you can get the stuff inside, what the biggest problem Pete has, is that he is always being nicked for posession of the stuff, everyday, he is caught in the papers, being arrested, for pos.of drugs, and goes before the court, and the mag's let him off, with orders attached, if he breaks that order, that is ' contempt of court' and therefore he walks down the stairs, there are people in prison for 5 years on lesser offences, than what Pete did, he has to learn his lesson, that you cannot take the mick, out of the law.

I very much doubt there are people serving five year terms for lesser offences than Doherty Arthur, if so I would be interested to hear what for. As I said earlier the guy isn't my cup of tea, but I suppose the difference between him and an ordinary addict is that for him money isn't a problem, where as a "normal" addict would probably be sent down for repeatedly stealing and suchlike, Docherty doesn't have that problem. Its normally the offences addicts comitt in pursuit of their drugs that puts them inside, not the actual use of the drugs, in some ways its probably harder for someone with money to break an addiction, as the one barrier to stop most people doesn't apply to them, anyway now his out lets hope this time he can make some progress.

The maximum penalty for contempt of court is 2 years and that is from Crown court, had one of the magistrates sent him down earlier, it'd be 1 month max
