In the UK, regulator Ofcom said it would investigate and address any evidence of "excessive charges and abuses of competition" if prices were set unfairly by airlines and mobile networks.

Re: Mobile phones on aircraft
I dont see the problem, i mean people are allowed to talk on flights (at least all the ones ive been on you have) so apart from the ring tone which is easily set to vibrate there isnt much of a problem.
But i do question the need when its only avialable in europe so is only going to be on a short-haul flight. I like to use my phone a lot but even i can manage a few hours without being in contact with everyone

Re: Mobile phones on aircraft
Whilst it's oh so true people talk on planes anyway as post 17 says. In fact I've always found it to be more annoying coming back from where I've been on a plane than going to etc. Anyways it's also true that people talk far louder on a mobile phone than they do to say a person sat next to them!.

Re: Mobile phones on aircraft
The bit that really made me laugh in th article I read pointed out that it used Pico Cell technology to avoid interfering with aircraft navigation.
This means the mobile phone will only need to be transmitting at very low power, but I can just imagine the base station receiver going low gain or the antenna connecton breaking etc. It would mean suddenly all the phones using it would transmit full power!
The bottom line of course is aircraft wiring and control is often very suseptible to interference from other RF sources. It has always amazed me that car manufacturers meet very stringent requirements but aircraft manufacturers do not.
Has anyone heard about our UAV's dropping from the sky or perhaps the Apache problems!

Re: Mobile phones on aircraft
They should only allow text, mms messaging, and no voice.
I'ld be tempted to open the door and throw the phone outside.

I'm sure you would have to join a queue Hom, it would be awful if airlines went down this road.

Not only do they talk louder on a phone, they also think they are at home and will share with the whole world every little detail that you just don't want to know about.

Yes but when people talk face to face they are hearing both sides of the conversation and interacting.
Hearing someone muttering away into a phone is annoying, it does your head in. It's a one sided conversation.
