I do despair. Can't gypsies worry more about the rogue elements within their community that destroy our countryside than Basil Brush? The police have enough to worry about than nonsense complaints like that. I suppose had the 'thief' been white it wouldn't be racist, because white is a race noone bothers to protect anymore. I found it interesting that that 'Romany journalist' used the term gypsy. I didn't think it was proper to call them that anymore.

Well I think it's considered acceptable for black people to use the 'N' word amongst themselves so perhaps it's the same here....

Words are not offensive, the meaning behind those words are. Hence, If a white person said nigger to a black person they did not know it could, rightly, be assumed to have a racist intent. While a black person saying to another is much less likely to be considered the same. Just like making comments about someones physical apperence is considered joking when its by friends but insulting if someone did it to you off the street.

That said, I am sure many black people would be offended. Its not as if people all think the same way..

I must admit to looking over at the date to see if it was April 1st when I followed the link.

This country is getting worse by the day, is the compainant disputing that gypsies have earned a reputation for dodgy tarmac on driveways, leaving their mess about the place, not paying their way and stealing?

I must correct that statement.

A true Gypsy, could be given the keys of your brand new Bugatti Veyron to look after while you when on a 4 week cruise, and come back and your car would be unmarked where you left it.

a Didicoy on the other hand would nick it and the contents of your house including the floors

(My mother lived in the countryside as a child, and they had Gypsys near by)

I wouldn't disagree with you, but I also said the following in my post.

The gypsies around here refer to themselves as gypsies, although I would dispute that they are real gypsies.

The big problem is by broadly recognising Gypsys as a race, we are also recognising the Didycoy or any other person who lives in a caravan that claims to be a Gypsy.

Around here they refer to themslelves as Gyspys, but all the original ones I remember as a kid now live in houses. The current ones living in caravans on the old site are relatively new to the area, and have a reputation for stealing. The older ones often popped around to see me for any scrap I my have, but they would not even step out of their vehicle and onto my land if I was not about. If my grandfather was here on his own they would not ask him but wouldinstead ask what time to call back, they knew that by acting responsibly I woul put all the scrap to one side for them.

I have the current ones on CCTV trying to remove my locked trailer and cement mixer about 2 years ago. Also have CCTV evidence I provided to the police when they stole my neighbours truckman top off his pick-up. The truck they used was a very distinctive yellow transit with a small Hiab crane on the back, the police knew exactly where to go to find this vehicle as ell as I did. What a shame the police didn't follow it up, but hey what would be the chances of catching and convicting these people.

Proof if more was needed that some people in this country have too much time on theirs hands to come up with this rubbish. If gypo's or whatever they like to call themselves don't like the cliche then change it with actions not a lawsuit or complaint they are being victimised. Where i live the only victimisation going on is from the gypo's to the residents of my town.
