Jamie Bulger's 18th birthday
This past weekend, Jamie Bulger would have been 18.
There was a link on the ITN websire but it seems to have dropped off now but part of it was...
Quote:
The mother of murdered toddler James Bulger has launched a memorial appeal ahead of what would have been his 18th birthday this weekend.
Denise Fergus appeared alongside Esther Rantzen to raise £1 million to fund the James Bulger House Appeal, which will provide an educational refuge for bullied children called the Red Balloon Learner Centre.
Ms Fergus said: "Nothing can ever bring back James and I have got to live with that knowledge.
"His 18th birthday is going to be a particularly hard time for me and all our family, not having him with us.

Re: Jamie Bulger's 18th birthday
It's the kind of thing you would never get over (I would imagine, I certainly hope I don't put ever have to put it to the test). Every day would be a reminder.
.. and those 2 things that did it (I can't call them people/kids) now have new identities, a good education, and probably nice lives.
Personally, in that situation I would track them down, somehow, and kill them. Painfully and slowly.

It was upsetting enough when it happened, but now, having a child of my own, close to the same age, it brings me to the verge of tears.
Reading what they did to him, a little 3 year old, who had never hurt anyone, and spent the last few hours of his life in absolute misery - I just fail to see why they are out, living their lives
---------- Post added at 16:22 ---------- Previous post was at 16:18 ----------
It's also somewhat alarming to read one of the rumours places one of the pair not living too far away from me

Nope, that was centuries ago when we did that. Now we just ask them not to do it again, and give them a house or something.

I remember it well.
Shelley may not have been the best writer that's ever lived, but she did give us the lesson that we create our own monsters - and we reject them at our peril.

sterilisation because they killed?
Let's not get barbaric, lock them up, that's good for me.
In the case of Venables and Thomson, they too young when they committed the crime.... I have no firm opinion whether to give them another chance or lock them up or good
Wikipedia has a complete cover of their alleged wherabouts....

Re: Jamie Bulger's 18th birthday
On the same afternoon that Jamie went missing I was in a town mall with my other half and had our littlest in tow. We were engrossed in something and lost sight of him for 30 seconds............... he was 2 1/2 at the time. I'm wondering how interesting whatever we were looking at could have been? There, but for the grace... etc.
The dreadful reports made me - (I truely counted myself as a conscientious parent...) realise that it could have been my wee Matty and not Jamie B. I still know who I blame, and that doesn't just mean one set of parents.
Anyhow, um back on topic. I have no good reason to think that 10-year olds, or 10 year-olds who committed a crime when they were 10 should be sterilised. Or killed? I'd like to know what has been done to 'adjust' their mentality.
And God Bless to wee Jamie.

Re: Jamie Bulger's 18th birthday
I live in the block of flats where James lived with his mum (its been redeveloped since), but feels rather eerie
Strange how some horrific crimes never seem as long ago as they actually were, i'll never forget that day watching it unfold on TV.
RIP Jamie.
