Travellers-they do themselves no favours...

Not to far away from my home we have a band of travellers. I guess there are around 8 caravans and assorted vehicles. The lane in which they are parked has only just been cleaned up by the council after some flytipping of builders rubble and household waste.

No sooner is it cleaned up than our romantic band of travelling folk appear.

As you will see,the rubbish is beginning to pile up again,this time dumped by them. No one else to blame,no -one else there.

Meanwhile close by we have the ohttp://homepage.ntlworld.com/dooper786/test/travel.htmlrdniary everyday mugs sat in their homes paying their fat poll tax bills and other taxes and having to suffer this filth on their doorsteps.

This is a problem we have where i live we have two travellers camps one to the north of the town and one to the south and they are nothing but trouble. All the local people are fed up with them and every now and again violence breaks out between the travellers and the townsfolk but nothing ever changes just one of them things we have to get used too.

The one at the end of our road most people don't even realise is there, and we have more in our district than the rest of the county. The tinkers/pikeys that turn up from time to time in random locations do leave a huge mess when they leave.

BTW "Travellers" are very anti tinkers & pikeys and the different types should not be confused nor tarred with the same brush.

Vlad, agree that this behaviour is unacceptable.

Strange, though, that you didn't previously post a thread and photos when, as you state in your OP, "some flytipping of builders rubble and household waste." happened.

There is nothing strange about it. I simply emailmed the actionline at my local council and they dealt with it swiftly.
It would of course be a waste of time emailing the actionline on this occasion as travellers are totally immune from UK law.

Yes, they all use the same subterfuge to hide behind...oh its not us,we are real travellers or we are real romany. We are a protected ethnic group. In reality the only people most of us see are bands of people in caravans with tranny vans usually bearing something like driveways Ltd etc and leaving piles of rubbish when they depart.

I have yet to see the romanticised traveller idyll of wandering tradespeople mending pots and pans and sharpening knives door to door.

The majority of people living in one of our wealthiest villages still class themselves as travellers even though they mostly live in bungalows and haven't set foot on the road in generations. So yes there is a huge difference between the traveller family & tinkers & pikeys. The ones who live near us are fairground people and never cause any trouble been on the same site for over 30 years.

Might actually be more worthwhile to get to know these people before you tar them all with the same brush.

If 'they' stay around long enough for their kids to get to a school - their kids are very difficult to educate and integrate, no matter how 'good' the staff are, or how many outside agencies are called in to help. But it's not the kids' fault IMHO. Well, that seems to be the case where I work.
