3 little......BANNED animals
BBC
Quote:
A story based on the Three Little Pigs has been turned down from a government agency's annual awards because the subject matter could offend Muslims.
The digital book, re-telling the classic fairy tale, was rejected by judges who warned that "the use of pigs raises cultural issues".
The awards which rejected the book are run by Becta, the government's educational technology agency.
The judging panel also attacked the book's stereotyping of builders.

Re: 3 little......BANNED animals
Whats ironic is that the judging panel are also attacking the book's stereotyping of buildings, whilst at the same time applying their own (inappropriate) stereotype to what might or might not offend certain cultures. I'd guess they are aiming it at ,by making their own stupid assumptions, protecting the sensitivities of Muslims (maybe Jews too)

They better not ban Peppa Pig from the morning cartoon schedules, it's my daughters favourite cartoon!

Re: 3 little......BANNED animals
As the majority of the judges who made this decision are teachers, what does that say about the mentality of the education establishment?
Perhaps someone should point out to them that at Taif zoo during the 80's, they had several pigs on display. So if Saudi Arabia is happy with pigs in their zoos, what on earth where these teachers thinking? Oh wait... they obviously weren't.

Re: 3 little......BANNED animals
Lets face it, with current mentality there will soon be a time when all references to the words black, brown, pigs, golliwoggs, sheep etc will be banned completely. Common sense has no place in this world at the moment, it's all down to a perception of a possible offence being caused instead of actually asking the groups involved whether they actually care about the references.

You seem to have slightly embroidered the story in your headline, Paul, since it's not actually been banned, has it, with it still being on sale and everything? True, it's a Government agency acting in a phenomenally stupid way, but that's hardly surprising given the way people are appointed to them.
If there's a single sensible Muslim who applauds this I'd like to see them*. I suspect, like the saafster, they'll roll their eyes up and think 'bloody idiots'. As indeed will virtually everyone else. It's not like their writ runs to banning it from schools or that anyone's going to take it as a cue to start banning it from schools.
In case anyone's looking for a copy, here you are, but they might want to sort out the pricing. Geared to schools at the moment.

Now for some real discrimination:

Shocking. I'll be joining them in solidarity just as soon as I can persuade my girlfriend to adopt a BDSM lifestyle (she can do the 'S' part already, she whacked me in the eye when I suggested it).
* The type of Muslim who would applaud Becta's decision would, I suspect, not be happy with it being on sale full stop, or indeed quite a lot of other things being on sale. It's not like the jihadists' worldview is concentrated on thick government agencies shortlisting books for awards.

What?
I don't remember the part of this story where a bloke turns up late, drinks some tea, says that he can't do the job because he needs to order the parts then disappears for 3 months..

Seriously...sheep? Hello? Common sense goes both ways, mate - nothing's been banned.
Sense of proportion *please* - or have I wasted my time on here for the last couple of years pointing out that political-correctness-gone-mad stories are usually made up?

Remember the bit where the shoddily built houses get blown down by a wolf huffing and puffing?
Imagine if there'd been a gale at the time?

Proper builders would have put a sign up saying 'Warning: this property is not suitable for use in a wolf-rich environment'.
Looking through the website, it's a lot more offensive to builders than Muslims.

Re: 3 little......BANNED animals
Just another bunch of hand-wringing Guardianistas making idiots of themselves. What a pity they get to inflict their worthy fantasies on others. Perhaps we should try to get them banned for causing offence.
